I coughed tiredly as I turned around in my bed, trying not to slip out of my sleepy state. But there seemed to be something stuck in my throat, making me cough again and waking me up in the process.

It was then that I smelt it – the smoke in the air. I opened my eyes, seeing a faint layer of smoke in my room, coming from underneath my door. Waking up even more now, I clambered out of bed and followed the smell of something burning, eyes widening when I saw a flickering light coming from beneath Emma's bedroom door.

"Fire!" I shouted, hoping to wake everyone up, before bursting into the blonde's room.

The sight wasn't one I expected. Emma's curtains were burning bright, the fire having spread to the wood of her wardrobe which was charred as smoke coiled into the air from it. And it was all coming from Emma, who was lying fast asleep in bed, her left hand touching the wall where her curtains were, creating a flame.

"Emma!" I yelled, needing her to wake up.

I ran to her side, touching her arm – which wasn't on fire, but burning so hot that it may as well have been. I hissed as I pulled my hand back, realising all of her skin was the same.

She groaned slightly, eyes moving beneath her closed lids, and then I heard footsteps behind me and saw the other children stopping by the door, eyes wide in shock as the flames reflected in them.

"Bloody hell, Y/N, wake her up!" Hugh shouted.

"Don't you think I'm trying!" I snapped at him, before seeing Miss Peregrine pushing past the children to see what the commotion was.

Her eyes were worried as she saw what Emma had done, and she pushed the others back out the door protectively before looking to me.

"Can you fix it?" she asked.

I looked to the fire, knowing it would require a lot of water, more than I could conjure out of thin air. Ideally, I'd need a source, but luckily for me, the well was just outside Emma's window in the front garden.

"I'm sorry, Miss Peregrine," I apologised in advance, before raising my hands to get ahold of the water deep in the well below.

I struggled at first, it being further than I liked, before I found a firm grip and flicked my wrists, shooting it towards me in a single target. It was enough to smash through Emma's window, making a mess everywhere of shards at the foot of her bed. I brought the rest of it in, blanketing the fire with a steaming hiss. I splashed some on Emma, who wasn't waking up despite the commotion, to my concern. Thankfully this worked, as she woke with a start, looking around in confusion.
