Nick's POV:

After three long and nerve wracking hours we had finally made it to my mom's house. It was just as I remembered it, the only difference being the lawn decorations. Instead of gnomes there were statues in the yard and windchimes hanging from the porch. She even had a birdbath sitting in the yard.

Kali had slept the whole way over, which I was thankful for because it meant she wasn't subjected to me and my nonsense rambling about having to see the one person in the entire world that genuinely strikes fear in my heart. Besides my mother and Kali herself.

I'd spent hours trying to plan how this was gonna go. Sadly, I've got nothing. Nothing at all. How could I possibly plan for such a thing? I don't know if this lady is the same person she was all those years ago or if she changed by some crazy ass miracle.

I know that's wishful thinking, but even if she did change she's still the person who ruined me all those years ago. She made me a fucking victim.

"Nick? Why are we- Oh." I turned hearing Kali mumbling.

"I'm glad you're up, sleeping beauty." I said, leaning over to kiss her cheek. She rolled her eyes and turned to look out the window.

"Wind chimes?" She whispered before turning back to me.

"Why so many wind chimes?" She asked quietly.

"I don't know. She lived here alone, maybe they made her feel better about herself." I said before I climbed out of the car and made my way around opening the door for Kali. She climbed out and stretched before grabbing ahold of my hand.

"Hey, are you sure you're ready for this?"  She asked as we walked towards the front door. I chewed on the inside of my cheek before answering,

"Yeah. Besides, she'll be here tomorrow. So, I've got today to mentally prepare myself." I tried to sound jokingly about it but it didn't seem that she was falling for it.

"If-"

"I know, baby." I said before leaning down and placing a quick kiss on her lips. She gave me a small smile before interlocking our fingers and leaning into me.

I smiled before reaching forward and opening the door. The familiar aroma of lavender and jasmine filled me with a sense of comfortability. And something else that I wasn't quite ready to acknowledge.

"Mom? We're here!" I said. After a few seconds she walked into the living room from the kitchen, the biggest smile I'd ever seen plastered on her face.

"Bucky! Kal! I'm so glad you two are here! I've missed you both so much!" She said through the tears that had slowly started to fall.

"Mom," I sighed, knowing that if she started crying Kali would fall soon after.

"Don't mom me! I haven't seen you in months! I have every right to miss you!" She shouted as the tears overflowed. She hugged me tight, damn near killing me before she moved to hug Kali. And just as I fucking expected Kali had started crying too.

"Oh honey, you're so beautiful! You look so lovely and you're glowing! Are the boys treating you good? They aren't being jackasses are they?" My mom asked as she pulled away and looked Kali up and down.

"They've been great. Everything is really amazing, I couldn't ask for anyone better." Kali said through her tears, which I thought were so unnecessary but I knew that saying so would get my ass beat so I kept my damn mouth shut.

"Can I expect any grandchildren any time soon or is that wishful thinking?" Oh my fuck.

"MOM!"

"Ok! Ok! Wishful thinking, got it. I just thought I'd ask." She said, rolling her eyes before wiping away the evidence of her tears.
