Sae's fingers curled around his phone, trying to regain sense in his palm. His mind was still hazy from the vivid memory, but instincts kicked in fast. His thumb swiped across the screen, finding the voice recorder app. He tapped it on, letting the red light flicker to life before slipping the device into his pocket.

The knocking came again, more insistent this time.

Sae inhaled deeply, his jaw tightening as he finally turned toward the window.

A woman stood there, perfectly still, her gaze locked onto him. The dim light somewhat illuminated her features, but he didn't need to see her face clearly to know who she was.

Hildegard Reichert.

His stomach twisted. A cold, buried part of him stirred to life. The memories clawed at his mind, but he shoved them down. Not now. Calm down.

For a moment, neither of them moved. The stretch between them like a razor wire. Then slowly, he reached for the door handle and pushed it open.

The night air was thick with something unspoken, to Sae's displeasure . He stepped out with an intention to make the interaction brief.

Hildegard tilted her head slightly, watching him with that same unreadable smile. "Sae," she called out, her voice smooth, almost affectionate.

His name on her lips sent a chill down his spine.

Sae didn't reply initially. Instead, he leaned against the car arms crossed. "What do you want?"

Hildegard let out a soft hum. "Straight to the point. Oh, you just never change ." She took a slow step forward. "I saw you sitting here all alone. Thought I'd check in."

Sae scoffed. "You don't just check in on people, try again. What do you want?"

She laughed melodically, laced with something sinister. "Still so distrustful. It's been years, Sae. I'd hoped time would make you a little more... forgiving."

His fingers twitched. Forgiving? She actually had the audacity to say that?

"Is that what you came here for?" He exhaled through his nose. "Because if so, you've wasted your time."

Hildegard took another step forward. "Oh, Sae," she murmured. "I get you. You're that strong untouchable prodigy. But I wonder..." Her eyes gleamed. "When you're all alone, when the nightmares creep in... do you still think about it?"

Sae's breath hitched, but his face remained expressionless. He refused to give her the satisfaction.

"Do you still hear the music?" she continued, her voice dipping lower. "Feel the taste of alcohol down your throat?" She leaned in slightly, eyes never leaving his. "Or maybe... you still smell it."
