ISLA

I hate Wednesday... and pretty much any other day in which school is involved. But, I especially hated Wednesday, so close to Friday yet so far, and right in the middle of the week.

My best friend, Will Hawthorne, stood in the lunch line flirting with a girl.

It normally wouldn't have bothered me but, he had my food and I was so hungry I was seriously considering cannibalism.

I left my table filled with jocks and went to Will. I forcefully grabbed my tray.

"Next time I'm starving, think with the head on your shoulders and not the one in your pants," I said.

The girl gave me a disgusted look as Will chuckled.

She looked down at my shirt that said 'I'm a Virgin (this is an old shirt)' with disgust on her face.

To spite the girl I looked down at her chest and said, "nice rack." Before turning on the heel of my favourite Combat Boots and leaving with my food.

I heard Will's loud laughter behind me.

"What did you do now Isla?" Todd Finnegan asked.

"The girl was giving me the look," I said, with hamburger in my mouth.

They smirked. I rolled my eyes.

"Not that look," I said. "The disgust look."

I had come out two and half months ago, right before junior year ended, and people tended to give me that look.

Will and his group of friends had whole heartedly accepted me. They were my only friends in that hell hole.

"Bitch," he said.

The others nodded in agreement.

I moved my hair out of my face. It was currently dyed Platinum Blonde and I was thinking of keeping it that way for a while. It was cut short into a pixie cut that I had gotten over the Summer.

Will came back. "Where's your food?" I asked.

He jerked his head toward the lunch line. "Threw it on that girl."

I spat out the juice I was drinking, then I was coughing and gasping.

I'm oh so ladylike.

"Why?" I asked, through my wheezes.

"As soon as you left she started talking shit, she's probably a homophobe, she called you trash so I dumped my lunch on her, she's the real trash," he said.

One of his teammates high fived him from across the table.

"Nobody messes with my little sister," Will said.

"You're older by five minutes, calm your tits," I said.

"Last time I checked, you're the only one with tits here, sis," Will said.

I spotted a girl from across the cafeteria. She was wearing a polka dot dress- too short for her own good- and flats. Her brown hair cascaded down her shoulders in curls, side bangs covering her tanned face.

"Not for long," I said.

"Damn, call her," Finnegan said.

"Nope," I said. "She's one of me."

"How do you know?" Will asked.

"Gaydar," I said, with a duh tone. I cracked my neck and rolled my fingers. "Wish me luck boys."

I headed towards the girl.

"You new?" I asked.

She nodded.
