"The sharp words you said to me, those empty eyes and that cold expression... You're quite a pretty person, aren't you? Please don't do this to me..."

~Hug Me-정준일

Kyung-mi had been so upset. It had hurt so bad, it made his chest feel like it was collapsing, and all she had done was spoke. Her pretty voice saying all those terrible things had hurt worse then when anyone had physically hurt him.

And it had only gotten worse when her mom came upstairs, wondering what all the yelling was about, a bowl of ramen in hand.

"I hate this!" Kyung-mi yelled. "I tried, mom, I did, but I'm terrified, mom, I'm terrified in my own house because right next door is some psychotic killer, and Jimin thinks it's funny to get him riled up!"

Her mom looked at her evenly, calm. "Kyung-mi, Taehyung is a human being who is in the room, apologize, right now."

Kyung-mi gave Taehyung a look. The look was filled with fear, and then hate, and then a certain kind of dark feeling. It wasn't the look itself, it was the way her dark chocolate eyes shone, the glint enough for Taehyung to realize she wanted to get back at him somehow. But I didn't do anything.

"No." Kyung-mi said defiantly said, crossing her arms over her chest. "It's not fair, you can't just toss your flesh and blood aside for him, a guy who killed his father!"

Taehyung felt sick at the mention of his father. Appa... Taehyung bit his lip, whimpering quietly. He felt so alone so suddenly, almost like he'd never been smiling and giggling so hard. Every trace of happiness had left his body, the emptiness only replaced with the terrible feeling of his stomach about to expel whatever it was that was in it.

"You're grounded. Absolutely grounded."

Kyung-mi screamed. Actually screamed, picking up her book and stomping out of the room, pushing past her mother harshly. Soon after, a door slammed, the action seeming like it shook the walls. Taehyung swallowed.

Her mother gave her a glare, obviously wanting to call her back for that outburst, but then looking back at Taehyung. Her eyes softened, and she walked up to Taehyung handing him the bowl of ramen. "I'm sorry, Taehyung, I'm sure she didn't mean it."

Taehyung nodded. No, she meant every word. He wished she hadn't, that someone as pretty as her could be nice too, but she was like his sister's friends, cold around him, because he was just some pet to them, just some pet to her, she wanted to take him back and get a different one that didn't have as many flaws as many weak, stupid damn mistakes that were only all too obvious.

Taehyung wanted to trade himself in too. He'd rather be anyone else.

Their mom awkwardly reached out toward him, seeing him in deep thought, and patted the top of his head. "She'll get used to you, don't worry."

Taehyung looked up at her, looking straight into her dark eyes, and he nodded again. He realized now. That's all he was to anyone, a pet. This was all just pity.

I'm still just a dog to them. To everyone.

He looked down at the bowl of ramen she'd put in his hands. He was hardly hungry anymore.

That night he couldn't sleep, he stared at the white ceiling, thinking about every nightmare he could have. He didn't sleep often anymore, when he did, he dreamed about killing his Appa, about all his sister's friends hanging him by his feet from the ceiling like a light fixture, that his real parents had never left him--but then in the end they always died, leaving him alone again. Taehyung had woken up in tears too many times, he wasn't sure if it was cold reality that he had no one who loved him, or that he was reminded that he could have had something in life, but everyone took it away.
