Chapter Fourty-Four

We decided that we would take Elijah's car, and he would drive us to the docks while I looked up directions to the warehouse with my phone. It took us a while, but we finally found the warehouses that were numbered in the 50s.

"53... 54... " Elijah muttered the numbers to himself as we drove past each of them. "55... 56... That one," he said, stopping the car in front of one of the smaller warehouses.

"Thierry was telling the truth," I told him as I put my phone away and we both rushed out of the car. "I can feel her. Her power is being constantly drained."

We ran in and saw it almost immediately, right in the middle of the building. "Rebekah!" Elijah called out, and we both darted forwards.

We were stopped by some kind of forcefield. "Damn it," I growled. "He put a boundary spell around her."

"I'll call Sophie," he said.

A few minutes later, after filling Sophie in on what exactly was happening and what we had to do in order to help Rebekah, Elijah was getting frustrated. She didn't seem to understand. He put her on speaker so that I could hear a little easier.

"You're not listening," he said. "We cannot enter the circle. There's some kind of confinement spell. If I can't remove her, we can't break the link."

I kept on walking around the circle, feeling around to see if I could find a weak spot. Usually there was one, unless the witch who created the spell was extremely powerful. And it seems that this witch just so happens to be one of the strongest adversaries I've ever had.

"It's a convoluted spell, it's like a witch's recipe. You can spoil the bounds by adding a more potent ingredient. A mystical binding agent. I don't know, volcanic ash, rock salt, anything up to and including eye of newt."

"What about the blood of a witch?" Elijah asked, crouching down to look at the dust surrounding Rebekah's body.

"Do you have the blood of a witch?" she asked.

"No," I said. "He has the blood of a hybrid."

Elijah hung up before she could reply, and by then, I had already sunk my teeth into my wrist. I yanked them out, and I almost tore away every bit of skin my wrist due to how desperate I was to get her out of there.

"Careful," he stated, almost jumping forwards to stop me from being so violent with myself.

"Elijah, I will do anything to get her the hell out of that thing. Even if that involves bleeding myself out until I'm nothing but a shriveled husk," I said, putting my bleeding wrist over the dust which I was almost convinced was salt.

The salt made a hissing sound as my blood combined with it, and steam began to rise from the circle. Around the same time that my self-inflicted wound began to heal, I put my foot on top of the salt. "It's gone," I said.

He nodded to me, and stepped over the boundary warily. When he found that it was completely gone, he walked into the circle and lifted her up. He brought her out of the circle, and I told him to lay her down on the ground.
