Peggy's PoV

"Dugan, go! I'll cover you!" Peggy shouted over the roar of bullets that echoed throughout the cold concrete corridor.

"No! I'm not going without you!" He yelled back.

Dugan peered around the corner of the remains of the wall they were hiding behind, letting his fair share of bullets fly.

"Dugan," Peggy said sternly, her voice filled with authority.

She flashed him a look that said "don't mess with me right now or I swear, I will kill you myself" as he rested his back against their shielding slab of icy concrete.

Peggy sighed and turned around, her knees resting against the ground, as she pointed her gun and fired, not even blinking as the bullets flew from the chamber.

She turned back, reloading her gun, when Dum Dum Dugan pipped up.

"What would Cap say if I left his best girl behind?" He asked simply.

Suddenly, there was a blur of red, white and blue before Captain America ran and crouched beside them, watching his shield fly.

"He'd say-"

Steve stood up catching his shield in his arm before crouching down again and looking at the two.

"-Do as Peggy says," the Captain finished, a small smile forming on his face.

Peggy couldn't help the small tug that pulled her lips upwards, despite their situation.

Dugan sighed to Peggy's left, causing her to break eye contact with Steve and see him shaking his head.

"What?" Peggy asked, confused by Dum Dum's tutting.

"Nothin'. I'm gonna do what I'm told for once and leave you lovebirds to finish this."

Dugan crouching onto his hunkers, ready to run towards the whole in the wall that he had made earlier.

"Cover me," he said, before making his move, firing and running towards his escape route as Peggy shot at the Hydra agents and Steve threw his shield and wiped out his gun to do the same. Once their friend was safely out, the two hid behind the slab and took some deep breaths as they reloaded their guns, their breathing slightly laboured.

Peggy clipped a new magazine into her gun before turning back to Steve, following his moments and getting into a crouch and facing their wall of protection.

"Ready?" Steve asked quietly, despite the roar of bullets.

Peggy nodded her head.

"Ready."

Steve counted them down on his fingers.

Three.

Two.

One.

They both stood up, guns firing before they were even fully standing.

Peggy's finger was wrapped around the trigger of her gun, pulling it back again and again as she moved.

The two moved together, covering each other as they went. They worked like clockwork, knowing exactly how the other worked and ready to counter and defend their moves.

Fire. Duck. Move. Cover. Duck. Fire. Move.

They scrambled through the hole in the wall, a group of Hydra agents on their tails as they ran towards the truck that was waiting her them.
