Tragic

"I'm so nervous" my wife said bouncing her knee.

"Don't worry baby, our baby will be the healthiest thing to ever walk the planet" I said holding her stomach.

She nodded and sighed.

"Mrs. Mendes?" the nurse asked popping her head in.

We looked at each other and slowly made our way to the white room. She laid down on the bed and the doctor scanned her stomach looking for anything. I nervously tapped my foot looking at the blank screen.

"Uh miss- I'm sorry but you had a miscarriage" the doctor gasped.

I looked at her squeezing her hand tightly.

"W-what?" she stuttered.

Tears flooded her eyes as I held her close. She got cleaned up and we left the hospital silently. I grabbed her hand in the car as she laid her head on the window staring into the darkness.

"I-I'm sorry baby" I sighed letting a couple tears drop.

Tears falling from her eyes as she silently sobbed in the corner. We got out and made our way towards back to the house. She laid on the bed holding her stomach. I laid down next to her hugging her from behind. My legs intertwined with hers.

"I love you" I mumbled into her ear.

"I-I love you too" she hiccuped.

I kissed her temple as she shivered. I wrapped us in the blanket holding her hand as tears continued to fall down her cheeks.

"I love you so much, you have no idea" I sighed. "We can try and try"

I could feel her tense up and smile. I smiled back kissing the back of her head one more time.

"But please promise me this?" I said turning her around so she could face me.

Her glossy eyes looked up into mine.

"Please don't ever lose hope okay?"
