We are in Ethan's car. "Madie", he says softly.
I do not respond.
"Madie" he repeats, moving his face closer to mine.
"Please stop crying. Please."
I look at him. His eyes are pleading for me to stop. But my tears continue to fall.
"I...can't...." I replied.
"Do you want to go to Harvey?", he asks.
I shake my head. My brother cannot see me like this; he will be furious. Besides, he is not yet off the hook. I want to go home. I want to crawl in my bed.
"Can you..drive me...home?"
The traffic is bad as expected. At this rate, it will take more than an hour to reach home. Thankfully, my tears stopped falling. The silence inside the car makes me at peace. Ethan stops at a gasoline station. He grabs snacks from the convenience store while the car stores up fuel. My mind drifts off again. Dylan is making me nuts. Did I really fall for that guy? My thoughts are interrupted when Ethan returns to his seat and hands me a bottle of water and a pint of chocolate ice cream. I smile as a sign of thanks. Honestly, I am impressed. He knows my comfort food.
He continues driving as I consume this heavenly ice cream in my hand. This takes me back to memory lane - the first time my brother's best friend comforted me. It was really sweet of him to take me to Harvey because he does not know how to cheer me up himself. I guess, now, he learned.
