BLUE APOCALYPSE

From behind the dry mountains,
You hide from me.
I cry for you, as my lips bleed
And you sing to me,
From the chilling deep.

Dead things fall from the sky
And I know we're the reason why.
My breath is dark
And you are slipping away.
From inside you, I hear your heart; it is weeping.

And suddenly, the ground can
Scream.
We run from nothing, towards the
Inevitable light.
Our bodies team with electricity.
We are slight, and the sun coughs.

My hands sweep over your soul, chewed and frail.
You grasp at me, eyes cracked and lost,
And my lungs fill with death and frost.

You have seeped into the depths,
Beyond my selfish reach.
Blood trickles down the trees and I fall into the sea.
I breathe the water; salt and all, until a mermaid's song chokes me, and I am gone.

We meet again; pearl roses beneath our feet.
Your eyes are black and blue, wounded from tears.
Thorns are embedded in our soles, and we stand frozen with glowing fear.

Time and judgment strips us of who we were.
Our scars are filled with wax; poured in hot, so hot it burns.
Our flesh is softened by tender blows, and our fears are pecked at by blue crows.

By now, the place we abandoned has been ruined.
Cracks run deeply through its face, and hollow bodies are all that is left.
The end is in an case of ice,
Waiting for the sun to melt it, to release Earth's demise.

We watch as the planet crumbles.
From our seats high in the city of gold, we laugh as the ground implodes.
They drag themselves across the grass, streaking the emerald strands with ruby juice from the fruit of brutality.
Soon it is over;
And from the below, it is delivered.

Our sins return, with vengeance and greed,
And we try to hide as they steal our wings.
The rose garden has been spoiled.
Our wings have been torn off and halos burned;
Without them we fall to the ground, silently, without a sound.

We have been swallowed by the core.
We melt, our bodies raw.
The ice has dripped away, and now all that is left is suffering.
You tell me things, in my sleep, say that there is more.

You were right;
We were pushed back up, into the crust, and we are trapped between the unbearable flames and the unyielding wall of rock.
I find comfort in your singing, it is bringing me hope.

The rest goes by fast.
Each layer will last a mere hour;
An hour of merciful torture.
The others screamed and prayed, but I laid still, silent.

We emerge finally from the chambers of the Earth,
Fresh and frigid,
Ready to begin again,
To sin.

We wander in the broken streets,
Our bodies battered and weak.
People talk softly, of what used to be.
It is a foolish practice, I believe.
You and I both know that the events will repeat.
But we will let them discover that on their own;
We will leave tonight, sailing off on the ocean breeze,
Your left eye the color of faded evergreen seas.
