Chapter Fifteen // {jordan's pov -- a year before the apocalypse}

My brother smiled at me from the opposite side of the table. We were eating the best ice-cream in Atlanta.

I was on a lunch break from my job and decided to see if my brother -- Hudson wanted to catch up. We didn't see each other often anymore, I was always engulfed in my job as a police officer, I'd just forget.

"Strawberry ice-cream is shit, I still don't get why you like it," Hudson commented on my ice-cream choice. I frowned at him playfully.

"Well excuse me but, you have banana, that's the exact definition of shit," I chuckled. It was now his turn to frown, but it quickly turned into a smirk.

"Alright, I can see what you mean. I do hate bananas, but this is the best," he replied enthusiastically. I smiled at him before digging into my ice-cream again.

Hudson is three years younger than me, making him 27. He lived a typical life. Worked in a department store and had a girlfriend. His girlfriend is absolutely amazing, I love them together. "Officer Taylor speaking," I spoke into the phone.

"It's Charles, it's an emergency at the station, get down a.s.a.p," Charles answered rapidly.

"Be there in 5."

I ended the call and jogged back into the store. Hudson was sipping his coffee, looking up at me expectantly. He knew. It always went like this.

"Huddy, it's an emergency, we'll catch up soon, I promise!" I told him, smiling hopefully

"I understand, go do your cop duties, you'll be late Jords," he ushered me off with a wink. I waved and rushed out of the store to my cop car.

I unlocked the car and jumped into the driver's seat. I sighed, resting my head on the steering wheel.

It always went like this...
