Christmas break came around quickly. Unfortunately, James and I couldn't go home that year because our father was seeking out a possible threat in France, so we stayed at Hogwarts. Draco wasn't staying at Hogwarts either. He was going home to Malfoy Manor.

Christmas break had just begun, and the people going home were packing up. I gave Draco one last hug in the common room and went down the Great Hall. As I walked in, I heard the ghosts and students singing. I saw Harry and Ron playing wizard's chess a the Gryffindor table and went to watch them. I sat down next to Harry, who was thinking hard about his next move. Hermione walked in, wheeling her cart of stuff, and came over to us.

"Knight to E5," Harry finally said.

"No, Harry!" I exclaimed, noticing the positions of Ron's queen. But the piece was already moving.

Ron thought for a moment until he said,

"Queen to E5."

Ron's queen walked over to E5 and knocked the knight away. I sighed.

"That's totally barbaric!" Hermione exclaimed, looking at the chessboard.

"That's Wizard's chess. I see you've packed." Ron said, noticing the trunk she was lugging behind her.

"See, you haven't," she replied.

"Change of plans. My parents decided to go to Romania to visit my brother, Charlie. He's studying dragons there!" Ron exclaimed proudly.

"Good. You can help Harry and Hazel then. They're going to go the library for information on Nicholas Flamel," she stated.

I bit my lip in thought. Where have I heard that name before?

"We've looked a hundred times!" Ron said exasperatedly.

"Not in the restricted section... Happy Christmas," she whispered. With that, she left the Great Hall.

"I think we've had a bad influence on her," Ron said to Harry. I giggled.

. . .

When Christmas Day arrived, I was the first one at breakfast. Everyone started to trickle in, and I waited for James. He came in with a few friends. I felt a hand ruffle my hair and a bunch of boys laughing. I put my fork down and stood up to face him with a blank expression. I brought my hand up and gave him a good punch in the arm.

"Ow! Merlin, you have a hard punch," he said, rubbing his arm. His friends laughed again.

I smiled innocently and said, "Happy Christmas!"

He scowled at me, and I laughed. As his friends laughed, I handed him his present. His eyes lightened up, and he ripped open the present.

"Wow. Every Flavor Jelly Beans. I always wanted them." he said sarcastically, turning the box of jelly beans in his hands.
