"Go explore! Have fun, we're in California." Mom was yelling at Caleb, who dashed out of the door the moment she began to sing California Gurls. I didn't have the same option, only remained sat down as she came for me.

"Babe." She sat beside me. "Cheer up."

I shrugged. "I don't have much to be happy about. You pulled me out of my comfort zone, where all of my friends are to California just because Bruno asked."

"It wasn't like that. I also got offered a very high paying job, my love."

"But did you have to take me away from the friends I had finally made?" I looked at her.

"Don't be like that!" She stood up. "It's California! You can wear whatever you want at any time of the year. Cheer up!"

"I'm just going to be another outcast." I grunted.

"You most definitely won't make friends at home." Mom pulled me up. "Out you go."

We moved to a beach house in South California. Sand was only a road away; a very busy road, which would probably end in death if you didn't look when you crossed.

I felt exposed, even though I probably blended in with any other teenager around. But I still felt awkward, especially because the girls looked like models and the boys were heaven - which most probably meant they were absolute idiots.

Before the sand was a little wall, probably coming to my waist, so I climbed up and sat legs crossed, observing Californians & how they had banter by the beach. However, my attention was torn from the people to a blue volleyball, landing in front of me.

I lazily got up and picked it up, peering around for its owner. "Hey! Over here!"

I flinched at the voice and image of a guy running in my direction, his hair tied into a man bun &I his abs sparkling with sweat. He stopped shortly before me. "Thanks for catching the ball, babe."

"Um, it's okay." I muttered, unable to even look at him in the eye.

"Wait, you're the girl who moved into Elliott's old house, right?" He chuckled. "My friend used to live at your house before he moved to London."

"Ah."

"Well." He took the ball from my hands. "I'll probably see you around. Bye!"

I waved him away, and sat back down, my cheeks on fire as I checked out his toned back.

Maybe Cali was going to be just great.
