It was December sixth, and Annabeth was woken up at six forty in the morning, by someone screaming something that sounded suspiciously like "Is it true!?" she groaned and sat up in bed, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes she looked around and realized the question was directed at her.
"S'what true?" She said, glaring at her brother.
"Jason and Percy? Are they really going out?"
"They went on a date? I don't know?"
"They went on a date!?"
"Yes, that's what I just said. Now get out of my face and let me sleep."
"But-"
"I mean now, Smith." He quickly climbed down, looking strangely elated for someone who just got told off. She rolled over and was about to go back asleep when the breakfast bell rang. Ignore the bell, she thought. It was only five minutes after everyone left when the door banged open again.
"Hey! Annabeth! Get out of bed!" Piper said.
"I'm asleep..."
"Come on!" Piper walked up and threw Annabeth's blanket on the floor. "Don't be lazy! It's Christmas!"
"It is not."
"Yeah, well, close enough."
"Is not."
"Only eighteen more days! Did you even open your shoe yet?"
"My- no, I didn't."
"Well come on then!" Piper grabbed Annabeth's hand and tried to force her into a sitting position. "Besides, you want to be awake for Percy and Jason's date!"
"That's not till lunch time... It's not even seven yet..."
"Close enough! Come on, let's go!"
"I-"
"Come on! I've been up since five and it's really boring!"
"Why don't you just go to breakfast?" Annabeth sighed, but allowing Piper to pull her to feet.
"I had breakfast when I woke up!"
"They don't serve breakfast at five..."
"Yeah, yeah, close enough." Annabeth just stared at her. "Well, you weren't at breakfast, where you? Now come on! Let's see what's in your shoe!" Annabeth followed Piper over to the door, and was surprised to see an assortment of other shoes of many sizes and colors sitting along side her grey boot. "Told you other people celebrated it! Now go on, look inside!" Annabeth knelt down and turned her shoe upside down. A bag of chocolate coins, a book, and huge chocolate bar, a crumpled up piece of paper and a wad of chewed gum (though Annabeth was pretty sure those had been in her boot before) fell onto the floor.
"There. Can I go to sleep now?"
"Absolutely not! Can I have a chocolate coin?"
"Knock yourself out." Annabeth said. Piper grinned and sat down on the floor next to her. She ripped a whole in mesh bag and pulled out a coin, then tossed one at Annabeth. She took off the gold wrapping and stuffed the chocolate in her mouth. "What was in your shoe?"
"A few hershey's kisses, a ring," Piper held up her hand and showed Annabeth the ring, "And a kitten."
Annabeth stopped halfway through the removal of the wrapping around her chocolate and looked up at Piper. "A kitten? A live kitten?"
"Oh yes, a tiny one. It was asleep when I found it. Always wanted a kitten, so that was nice. Everyone was really excited- hopefully none of the people who leave for the holidays have allergies!" Piper grinned and helped herself to another chocolate coin.
