My jaw drops. No. Bridgette can't leave.

"What?"

"My dad has plans for me. He wants me to get the best possible education and have a better life with him and away from my mum. It's still sketchy, I don't really know what happened with them – all I know is that they can't stay in the same room without fighting or completely ignoring each other's existence. And to be honest, I don't really know what I prefer. The icy silence, or the fiery arguments."

"Do you think your dad can do that? Take you away from the rest of your family here?"

"He can't. But you know how good of a lawyer he is. He could do anything – go anywhere and get whatever he wants. I'm screwed Kristen." Her eyes start tearing up and I pull her into a bear hug. "I don't want to leave. I love it here. I finally have made everything perfect – I've almost got a boyfriend, I've been getting good grades, I've got a best friend who always has my back. But I don't deserve her because she tried doing the right thing and I threw it right back in her face. Kristen, I'm sorry. I should have understood. It wasn't till Kyle told me how guilty you felt and everything that I realised how much of a witch I'm being. I'm sorry for snapping."

"No, don't be sorry. I'm still unsure of whether what I did was the right or wrong thing-"

"You were right Kristen. I wouldn't want to have heard it from you. My parents needed to tell me first." She says quietly.

"So, are we all good now?" We both giggle, even though we both have red eyes and wet cheeks, "Good. Because I miss you. And if you really do have to leave...then we need to make these last few weeks better than amazing."

"How can I convince my dad to keep me here?"

"I don't know. But I do know that no matter what, he'll want the best for you."

"...Then I bent over to pick up the roses and guess what."

"What?" I say.

"My pants ripped." Bridgette continues and we both start laughing.

"So then what did you do?"

"I told him straight away, he gave me his jumper to wrap around my waist."

"That's sweet."

"Then we went to the closest shop and I bought a skirt."

"That's too funny."

"It wasn't then! I was so embarrassed. But Dylan is so nice."

"I can't believe he got you flowers."

"I can't believe you've kissed Kyle!"

All day Saturday, we've been talking about all the different things we didn't get to tell each other. When we were fighting and before that when we hadn't had a chance to chat. It's been great, catching up with all the gos.

And like that, the day is over and before I know it, it's the next morning and I'm eating waffles with Gran and Mum.

"What are you two doing today?"

"Mel invited me to see a movie with her. I'll just call her and confirm." Mum says with a spoonful of ice-cream.

"I think I'll drive down to Aubry Coast for the day if that's alright with you girls." Gran adds.

"You'll be back by tonight though right?" I pipe in.

"Of course."

I go upstairs and get dressed for the day. I put on a black t-shirt and a pair of comfy jeans. Nothing much on today. I walk back down the stairs and see that Mum and Gran have already left.
