Los Angeles, California is where I live.

I live here with my mom. My dad passed away many years ago from cancer. My name is Ashley, I have long brunette hair that runs down my back and hazel eyes. I'm 17 years old. I'm quite short, but not TOO short. At the moment, I'm staying in a cabin with my friend for basically the entire summer. Her name's Jessica and she has bright pink-dyed hair. She's absolutely gorgeous.

"Ashley, you should come to the beach and meet some of my other friends" Jessica said.

"From school?" I asked.

"Well, no, they don't go there." I thought for a second.

"Sure, I don't see why not."

So Jessica decided to put her bathing suit on but I didn't feel like putting mine on since the water's always chilly at night. I walked out onto the beach with her as she searched for her friends. She then made her way towards a group sitting around a fire. I awkwardly sat down next to her, taking in the appearances of them. A lot of them were huge and muscular guys, while the girls were skanks with tattoos and piercings. I shifted uncomfortably as there were many stares shot at me.

"Hey guys. This is Ashley, she goes to my school" Jessica said. Nobody really replied and I suddenly didn't want to be there. After an awkward silence of what seemed like forever, people began to talk amongst themselves. I just kicked at the sand.

"I'm going to the bathroom" a boy with purple-dyed hair and many piercings announced.

"I am too" a blonde skank added. They both ran off and I stared at the boy. I leaned into Jessica.

"Who's that?" I asked, referring to him.

"Oh, that's Michael Clifford" she replied. "But, um...I would stay away from him..." She trailed off.

"Why?" I asked.

"He's a heartbreaker type of guy" she answered. I nodded slowly.

The night passed by quick and I soon fell asleep. The next morning, Jessica had invited some of her friends along with me to breakfast at McDonalds. We all decided to walk since it was just down the street. I couldn't help but to keep staring at Michael. I noticed how every time he laughed, he would slightly lick his lips after. A small gesture, but very cute. We arrived at McDonald's, having to sit at separate tables. I ended up sitting across from Michael whilst Jessica sat beside me and another boy sat beside Michael. I ate my breakfast burrito in silence but my eyes kept wandering to Michael. Taking me by surprise, he leaned over and whispered "Like what you see?" Before winking and walking away. I felt my legs go weak. What? He caught me staring? I knew by now my cheeks were heating up. I tried to duck my head but Michael soon came back. I saw him smirking at me from the corner of my eye but tried to ignore it. I also noticed his thick Australian accent. Breakfast ended soon and we walked out. I kept looking over at Michael and quickly looking away before he could catch me. Why am I so attracted to him? Because he's cute, of course.

"Ashley, we're headed to the beach. Wanna come with us?" Jessica asked, nudging me in the side. I looked over and saw Michael smirk.

"Yeah, Ash" he said. Once again, my legs went weak. I swallowed the lump in my throat.

"Sure, I'll go" I said, shooting Michael a look. All he did was laugh at me. We got back to the cabin but as we parted our separate ways to go change into bathing suits, Michael winked at me. I could feel the heat burning inside me. Surely he's only doing this to get under my skin. He caught me staring so he knows I'm interested in him, but I have to prove him wrong.

I threw on a black and white striped bikini in which Jessica gave me tons of compliments. She wore a purple bikini that looked gorgeous on her. We soon arrived at the beach and I can't lie, I was a bit nervous about seeing Michael here. But when we arrived to the group, Michael wasn't there. I frowned and everyone got in the water but me. It was cold anyways. I decided to just tan for a while. But a shadow casted over me and my eyes flew open. Michael stood there, catching me surprise and making me bite down hard on my lip. He was shirtless and frankly he was extremely hot. His tattoos covered most of his chest and his lip piercing moved with his lips as he smirked.

"Nice bikini, sweetheart" he said. "Why don't you come get in the water? You're wasting your time." He spun on his heel and walked away towards the water. I pursed my lips in a thin line, staring after the purple haired boy. I sighed to myself and decided to get in. Michael won't get the best of me. I won't let him. So I got in and a wave came crashing through. I dipped my head under, my hair dripping wet. I looked at the group who were further out, but how can I admit I'm scared to death to go far into the ocean? I sighed, and a boy I didn't recognize walked up to me.

"Hi" he said, smiling at me.

"Hello" I replied.

"Are you part of our group?" He asked me.

"In a way...." I mumbled.

"So why aren't you over there with us? I noticed you looking all alone over here" he said, grinning.

"Well, I...." I trailed off.

"Scared to go deep out into the ocean?" He asked as though he was reading my mind. I nodded, slightly embarrassed. He chuckled lightly.

"Just get on my back. I won't let you go. I'm Calum, by the way. Calum Hood."

"I'm Ashley Johnson" I replied, shaking his hand. I hopped onto his back. I barely know him, but he gives me a strange feeling of comfort. I wrapped my legs around his toned waist and my arms around his neck as he slowly swam us out to the group. He didn't have a lot of tattoos, but a few on his arms. We reached the group and they smiled and laughed. A lot of them actually talked to me this time and I found myself extremely comfortable with them. I made a lot of friends, actually. But for some reason, I couldn't help but to search for Michael. I found him talking to a group of bimbos I haven't seen before. He kept looking over at me and he glared as he saw me on Calum's back. The girls kept trying to talk to him but he ignored them, staring straight at Calum. I decided to block him out and talk to my newfound friends, Luke, Calum, and Ashton. We all hit it off.

The sun fell soon and began to set as we made our way back to the beach. I grabbed my towel to go back to the cabin and listen to music the rest of the night but Michael walked up to me. "You're coming to the fire tonight" he said as a statement.

"Um, excuse me? You don't tell me what to do" I replied, crossing my arms. He chuckled.

"You and I both know you want to see me." Who does this boy think he is?

"Too bad for you. I'm not coming."

"Please?" He asked. I looked into his eyes and as though I fell under his spell, I found myself nodding. He smirked, walking away. I sighed to myself.

I'm not gonna let myself fall for him. I promise that.
