The next hour was numbing.

I sat in silence, not knowing how to feel. He hurt my mum and ruined our family. I had every reason to want him out of my life, but he was still my dad.

No matter how much I had hated him, nothing could replace our memories. He was a great person before his business failed and the arguments began. I could not forget those memories no matter how hard I tried. He was about to start a new life in Australia while my mum worked two part-time jobs a day to make ends meet. I wanted to hate him, but could not bring myself to do so.

Was I being a terrible daughter to her?

Before I knew it, a tear had landed on my cheek, just as the door opened.

"Hey, you alright?" You asked softly, closing the door behind you.

I didn't answer.

Your footsteps got louder as you walked over to me. I turned my head away and wiped the tear off my face. Please don't ask me anything, I hoped.

You sat down beside me and took me in for a hug. You never asked me why I cried.
