"You are far more stronger than you appear."

Snoke's eyes take in every single physical detail about you, and you get the feeling his careful examination is not solely physical. You can feel him scanning your mind, your thoughts and memories. It's a horrible feeling, having this creature roam around your mind so freely. Looking at Kylo, who's staring intently at Snoke, you realise, for the first time, that you've never hated when you let Kylo read your thoughts. You know, deep down, that he doesn't do it out of spite.

"She is, master," starts Kylo, taking a step forward. "She might look fragile, but she's proved to be almost as good as I am in training."

"Is that so?" Snoke reverts his gaze back to Kylo. "And what does that say about you, Master of the Knights of Ren? That an untrained Force-sensitive coming from no significant bloodline is better than you?" You hear Kylo's pulse quicken, hear him swallow. He starts to say something, but Snoke interrupts him. "You have yet to finish your training, Kylo Ren. You foolishly thought killing your father would solidify your place in the Dark Side, but that is clearly not the case. I see now that you did what you did because you-"

"I think it says more about her strength than mine." You stare at Kylo wide-eyed. How could he interrupt the Supreme Leader? You had been scanning his face for any signs of emotion at the mention of his father. You hadn't known he had killed his father until now, and this is the first time that you actually start seeing him in a different light. What had pushed him to kill his own father? His heartbeat is pounding loudly in your mind, overpowering your own thoughts.

"I'm-I'm only getting better because Kylo is an excellent teacher," you hear yourself say. It surprises both yourself, and Kylo, that you spoke. You thought you wouldn't utter a single word throughout this whole meeting on account of how scared you were feeling. Kylo lets out an inaudible sigh.

Snoke considers this for a few seconds. "You two." He points at you, and then at Kylo with his pale, bony finger. "The Force is strong with you both. You share a very powerful energy, one which I am sure you have both recognised in each other. A distinctive energy, rare." His voice booms and echoes off the empty walls. "After you finish Luna's training I shall be training you both, together. We don't have much time."

"She's still in early stages- can't even resist probing yet-"

"Train her harder, more frequently! You need to be ready. Luke Skywalker and the girl are advancing in their training."

"Girl?" you ask, genuinely curious.

"The girl with the droid. A mere scavenger, also Force-sensitive. She resisted Kylo with not much effort." Snoke looks at Kylo with disdain. "It is your fault she got away."

"There was too much Light in her!" interjected Kylo.

"I've had enough of your arrogance!" Snoke bellows, extending his arm in Kylo's direction. Kylo's body is lifted a good five feet into the air, pulled forward by the powerful Force being used by Snoke. His hands shoot up to his neck, clawing desperately at the invisible grip. You gasp, realising with horror that Snoke is force-strangling him. "You are merely a child, wholly immature! You act without reason, and let your rage control your judgement. You have still much to learn and here you are questioning me!" You bite your lip and feel tears reaching your eyes as you wait in trepidation. You don't dare interfere. Kylo's pale face is changing to a crimson shade. "I'm- I'm sorr- sorry," he gasps, unable to breathe. Snoke releases him, and his body is shot to the back of the room. Kylo's back hits the metal door, and slides down to the floor, in an almost lifeless manner.

"That boy is much too immature. Don't disappoint me as he has, girl." And with that, Snoke's figure starts to fade away, until you're left staring at the empty throne.

You run up to Kylo, who's clutching his side and panting heavily. You grab his arm and try to help him sit up, but he resists your help, pulling himself up against the door. He's still trying to catch his breath. You feel useless. He looked so helpless under Snoke's grip, and you suddenly realise that Snoke was right. Kylo is too young, as are you. You think about all the mental turmoil he must have felt that led to him killing his father.

"It is none of your business why I killed my father."

"I know it isn't. I'm sorry." You decide to not shut him out of your thoughts. He calms himself, regains his composure and walks out of the room, knowing you'd follow him. Standing outside is General Hux, a sly look on his face. A quick scan of his mind reveals that he had been standing outside the room for the whole time, had heard everything Snoke had to say. He was pleased Snoke had acted the way he did, disappointed he had not taken more severe measures on Kylo. It sickens you, the look on his face.

It makes something inside of you change. Hearing what Kylo had done made you doubt his motives. But after seeing how Snoke treated him, all you wanted to do was let him know that he could seek comfort in you. That you saw him in a different light than everyone else, that you trusted his choices. Everyone around here saw him as someone unpredictable, an immature child who doesn't know what to do with his power and strength. But even though you had been working with Kylo for just over two months, it felt like you had known him for far longer than that. It felt like there was a subtle, yet incredible, bond between you both. This feeling- which you weren't entirely sure Kylo felt as well- must have something to do with the energy Snoke had spoken about. It was like you two completed each other- were built up from the same atoms. It explained why his was the only heartbeat you could ever hear.

You consider slapping the sly smile off Hux's face. How could he think that about him?  But you remain quiet. He doesn't say anything, and neither does Kylo. They both stare at each other, until you involuntarily shiver, the coldness of the bleak corridor raising goosebumps all over your body.

"You should go back to bed," says Kylo, not taking his eyes off Hux's.

"Listen to your teacher, little girl," adds Hux in a patronising tone, looking at you smugly.

"I am not a little girl," you say, knowing you're superior to him, knowing Kylo would never let him hurt you. "And show some respect in your thoughts."

Kylo looks at you, puzzled, while Hux glares at you, quickly coming to the conclusion that you had read his mind earlier.

"I do not want to waste time on him," Kylo says quietly, and turns away, starts walking down the corridor. You glare back at Hux for a couple of seconds, before following Kylo. When Kylo reaches the door to your room, he keeps on walking, but you stop, too tired to follow him, and hesitating for a second, call out his name.

"I'm sorry for what happened tonight."

"Why are you apologising?" his deep voice sounds uncharacteristically broken.

"I-I don't know. I just want you to know that-that I'm on your side, if there even- if there even are sides. And I really do think you're an excellent teacher."

Kylo smiles, his eyes closed. He's still not facing you, doesn't want you to know that your comment makes him feel better. He wants nothing more than to sit you down and explain things- a lot of things, actually- how he's not the bad guy everyone paints him to be. Or maybe he is, he's still torn about who he really is and who he wants to be. Which side he wants to affiliate himself with. He's been feeling torn apart for as long as he can remember, and all he really wants- needs- is a friend. But he feels like he needs to go through this alone. Besides, what would that say about him? People might think he's depending on you. People might think he's weak.

"That was impressive back there," he says, facing you now, but still keeping his distance. "How you read Hux's mind so subtly." You both stand there in silence, until he adds "I'll see you in the morning, Luna."

"Have a good night, Kylo."

Watching you enter your room, he sighs and whispers, "I rarely do."
