2nd Poem: Thank You Notes

Here I sit,

done with my work,

thinking of something to do.

The teacher calls us up one by one,

to help us revise our letters,

to give proper help where it is due.

Maybe our letters will make someone's day,

let their hearts melt,

lips turned up in a smile.

They have a stressful job,

the General Assembly that is.

They listen to others talk, talk, talk,

hours and hours go by...

yet they do not complain.

Those 90 days a term,

though very short,

are busy, busy, busy,

Yet, I found it a nice sport.

It was a different, beautiful place,

full of smiles and laughs.

But when it was time,

they dropped the crap and listened with open ears.

So we write these 'thank you' notes,

to give them our gratitude.

Not just because they listen to us,

nor because they listen to all,

but because they think about us.

We give our opinions of the law,

hoping for a change.

Stating what we want and expect,

hoping that they want the same.

Maybe they do want the same,

but money is in this game.

Without money, where can they turn?

They may want the same,

but they must look at all aspects of the bills,

hoping to find a compromise.

To this we say thank you,

and we wish you well.

Dear Honorable Members,

of the Latino Caucus.

While doing this poem,

my turn came up.

My teacher loved my letter.

She revised very little and gave much praise,

making me fill up and go into a daze.

For I am shy and do not know how to accept praise.

People say I am a good writer,

this I do not believe.

Well tell me viewers,

what do you think?

So, you are probably confuzzled as to what this poem is about. Well, I take a PreLaw class and we had the honor of visiting the General Assembly in Annapolis, Maryland this past February. I met so many different members of the Assembly and got three business cards. I got to sit through some of a bill hearing and shadowed a delegate. If anyone is curious about my letter, I can post it later as a chapter to this.

UPDATE: Deekshadreamz Here is the letter I wrote. I don't have the final letter that I sent them, but here is the draft of the letter I wrote to the delegate's assistant, Nikki Greco (P.S. I was too lazy to take a pic with good lighting so I typed it):

Dear Ms. Greco,

Thank you for helping me figure out the basics of the General Assembly. I really enjoyed shadowing you and Delegate Sanchez. It was fun to be your "model" for the day; I love the pictures you took! They look very professional. It was a real honor to meet you. Thank you so much for letting me attend some of the Noah's Bill hearing; it was a very interesting sight. The testimony became quite heated! It was nice to see both perspectives. It was also nice to see that people's voices would be heard. Enjoy the rest of the session.

       Very truly yours,

[MY REAL NAME THAT I SHALL NEVER TELL YOU MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!]

Also, here is a pic of me and Delegate Carlo Sanchez talking in his office: I DELETED IT ON THURSDAY JUNE 25, 2020 BECAUSE I FORGOT I EVEN POSTED IT. EWWWW. But this poem was originally published I suppose some time in March 2016, or at least early 2016 as the first comment indicates. Thank you for reading :)

(Can be found on the Latino Caucus Twitter page!! OMG CRAZY RIGHT?!?!)

There are more, but I don't feel like doing all the work to block out people's faces so...if you wanna see them you'll have to search the Latino Caucus' Twitter page.
