Phil Lester

When I walk into Dan's house, I am surprised to see the large living room. It is all white and seems almost untouched. It is too large for someone living alone but well, how does that bother me? As long as he is happy living alone in such a big house, I shouldn't be having any problems. The car ride was extremely awkward and I didn't know what to say to Dan. I had purposely ignored him the whole day, as I was already dreading coming to his place.

"It's a nice place, you've got here." I break the silence and he looks at me and half smiles. Something about him is off.

"Do you want something to drink?" He asks me, awkwardly scratching the back of his head. It seems like he doesn't have people here often which is strange since I imagine him as one of the people with many friends who is extremely social.

"Coffee maybe?" I am starting to get a headache again so it's best if I have a coffee. If we were at my place I would have popcorn too, but we're not so I stay quiet.

"Okay, I'll be back in a second. You can sit on the couch I guess." He stammers and quickly leaves me alone, standing in his living area. I quietly pad across the wooden floor and take a seat in the sofa crease, impatiently tapping my foot and looking around. His house is quite bland if compared to mine. I notice he has no pictures of his family in the room, only plain furniture and a television hanging from the wall. There is a fireplace as well, next to a carpeted staircase, which is probably leading to another set of rooms upstairs. I remember even before when me and Dan were friends. He would always come over to my house, back when I used to live with my family and I never really visited his. Well, seems like I wasn't missing out on much.

"Here," Dan's voice startles me, and I jump a bit before looking up at him. He is holding two mugs, and I take the one he is handing over to me. I thank him for the coffee and he takes a seat on the other end of the same sofa. He doesn't look at me, and quietly sips whatever drink he has made so I decided to not disturb the silence and take a sip of my coffee.

"So about volunteering, where do you think we could go?" His voice is soft. Something is really off about him and I would ask but I am too afraid to. What if he snaps at me? I better not, I decide and take another sip before answering his question.

"I don't know an animal shelter maybe?" I suggest and he smiles at me.

"So that you stroke one and we end up making out in a clinic again?" He says and I make a choking sound.
