"We're getting engaged!"
Those were the three unfortunate words I woke up to today. It was also the reason why I was late for my first day back at University. Apparently, spraying milk all over your clothes meant changing your entire outfit, and that meant me being late for the first lecture of the day.
As I walked down one of the many hallways of the building, a thought ran through my head. Why is it that i'm always the unfortunate one here?
Oh quit groaning it isn't even that bad.
As you can see, my conscience was another problem. It always had to say the wrong things at the wrong time. A loud and familiar voice brought me back to my surroundings. I swivelled around, to see two figures facing towards me. One sported an amused look, while the other looked annoyed.
I grinned sheepishly at the two and slowly walked towards them.
"I see nothing has changed during the summer, ey Nix?" Lukas grinned at me and ruffled my already messy hair. I groaned in annoyance and slapped his hand away. I turned to face my other moody bestfriend, Sapphire and gave her my best pout and puppy dog eyes. After much hesitation, her eyes softened but the glare on her face was still evident.
"Next time you're late please be sure to inform me. I was standing outside looking like a Lone Wolf!"
"That means i'm forgiven right?" I gave her a cheeky grin. She scoffed but engulfed me into a comforting hug.
That's what I love about my friends. Loving and forgiving. Me, Lucas and Sapphire first met during primary and secondary. We faced a few bumps on the way but since then, we've been inseperable. Their parents are also the loveliest people you could meet. They were extra supportive after my 'mother' had fled, running away from all her problems.
Sapphire Rosaline Lock. My stubborn, know it all of a best friend. She knew me from all my likes to my dislikes. Sapph was the type to strive hard and achieve to the best of her abilities. She had a beautiful shade of green eyes and blonde, medium length hair.
Lukas (Luke) Rhyles however, was the polar opposite. Childish and immature. He was the one who wouldn't pay attention in lessons and get bad marks when it came to tests. Luke had piercing bluey, green eyes and brown hair- the tips dyed blonde.
"We still meeting up at Ramone's after?" Ramone's was the best diner around and we'd always go there to eat. They both nodded in agreement and I hummed in responce as we neared the lecture room. The sudden revelation of my dad's and Melanie's engagement re-appered into my head, and before I could comprehend what happened the words came tumbling out. "So... You guys looking forward to my dad's and his girlfriends engagement in a week?" Sapph and Luke's eyes widened in shock and their jaws slacked- I simply ignored their shocked expressions and walked into the lecture room. Seconds after, the bell rang.
Just in time.
-------------------------------------------- 2 hours later the three of us found ourselves sitting in one of the corner booths of the diner. The jukebox was on, a soft and relaxing melody playing- one that I was unfamiliar to. I quietly sipped on my caramel latte, a soft sigh escaping me mouth from the warm and delicate flavour.
"How are you after finding out about the engagement?" Sapph broke the silence- her caring and thoughtful side surfacing. I shrugged carelessly, "It's not much I can do about. I don't know why i'm so disappointed anyway, I mean Melanie is a total sweetheart and so caring. The least I can do is support them and i'd love to see dad happy again."
"It's coz he wants to carry on eating her booty like groceries," Luke casually said- a sly grin forming on his face. I started to choke on my half eaten sandwhich as Sapphire whacked Lukas across the head. "Ow! What was that for you bully?!" Luke rubbed his head and groaned.
Sapphire rolled her eyes in annoyance, as I chuckled at their immaturity. The sudden squeal of Sapphire's high pitched voice brought me back to her attention as she squealed "SHOPPING!"
I stared at her blankly, not able to comprehend where the sudden word came from. Luke instantly let out a yawn at the topic and leaned back- shutting his eyes. Realisation slowly dawned upon me as I figured out what she meant. Furiously shaking my head I was like "No! Nothing is going to make me shop hours with you, especially when most of the time-" The ping of my phone stopped me from completing what I was going to say.
I unlocked my phone to see I had got a new message from Melanie.
From Mel- 2:01pm
Where are you now?
To Mel- 2:03pm
At Ramone's with Sapph and Luke. Why what happened? Is It Zack? Is he ok?
From Mel- 2:03pm
Don't worry Zack is fine. It's a good thing you're with your friends.
It was? Something definately is up.
To Mel- 2:03pm
How is it a good thing?

I know how much you hate shopping but i'd really appreciate if you'd do so just this once. You know how the engagement party is coming up? Well I hoped that you and Sapphire could go shopping together and choose a dress. You know how picky your father can be.
So that's what it was.

Ok, ok fine! But u owe me.

Yes, yes I do.
I put my phone away and let out a huge sigh. I snapped my eyes shut tightly and pinched the bridge of my noes. "Sapph how would you like to go shopping with me to pick out our dresses for the engagement?"
She turned to face me a wide grin on her face, as she squeaked in excitment and wrapped me into a hug.
Lukas on the other hand, groaned in annoyance and banged his head against the window- knowing that he'll be dragged along. I winked at him as he rolled his eyes in annoyance and flipped me off.
Shopping... Yay! This will be fun... Not.
