Saturday, May 12th // Jay's POV
I closed the cap on my Gatorade and walked over to the gigantic window that viewed the ocean and took a seat.
"Wow," I mumbled, thinking back to the days where Cameron and I were so in love. "I guess he has moved on," I added, speaking my paining thoughts aloud.
I didn't know Cameron was coming back. Even if I did, I didn't expect him to still be in love with me, but a small part of me broke when I realized he has a girlfriend, and a small part of me wishes I was in her position.
"Now it's my turn," I added to myself, looking out at the ocean and thinking back to the time where Cameron and I were sitting on the top of that lifeguard chair at 2 a.m.
I pushed the thoughts out of my mind as I grabbed and drank the remains of my Gatorade and tossed it in the garbage. I walked to the screen door and took a deep breath, bracing myself to be in the presence of the newfound lovebirds.
I walked back through the thick sand and watched as Shawn strummed his guitar, not playing a song in specific, just strumming.
I looked at all the people sitting around the fire, and I couldn't help but feel overwhelmingly happy to still have some of my closest high school friends with me.
The only people missing are Johnson and Gilinsky, who are on a world tour, producing and spreading their love of music.
Gilinsky and I made amends, he finally gave up on trying to get me during our senior year. I still remembered the smile on my face when he said he'd leave me alone, and after that we became fairly good friends.
I was pulled out of my flashback of thoughts when I recognized Shawn strumming the cords to free fallin' by Tom Petty.
She's a good girl, loves her mama
Loves Jesus and America too
She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too
It's a long day livin' in Reseda
There's a freeway runnin' through the yard
And I'm a bad boy, 'cause I don't even miss her
I'm a bad boy for breakin' her heart
"C'mon Jay," Shawn urged, encouraging me to sing a little louder as I mumbled the words to myself.
And I'm free, free fallin', fallin'
And I'm free, free fallin', fallin'
All the vampires walkin' through the valley
They move west down Ventura boulevard
And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows
And the good girls are home with broken hearts
I sang the chorus and the second verse with ease, a little intimidated and uncomfortable because I could feel eyes on me, and I knew they were Cameron's.
I laughed a little when Nash, Sam, Mahogany and everyone joined, the sound of all our voices filling the air, along with the crackling fire.
And I'm free, free fallin', fallin'
Now I'm free, free fallin', fallin'
Free fallin',
Now I'm free fallin',
Now I'm free fallin',
Now I'm free fallin'.
I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
I wanna free fall out into nothin'
I'm gonna leave this world for a while
