Chapter 34

Kyle's song repeats over and over in my head for the rest of the day. When I bump into Harmony, she, again, pressures me into talking to Don as soon as possible. So I tell her that I'll meet him later and then we can all go formal dress shopping. Bridgette, Sierra, Harmony and I all don't have dresses yet. Which seems like a big deal. It's not. It's a massive, enormous deal.

How are we going to find four perfect dresses in time?

The day goes by quickly, with barely any school work and mostly formal planning, there isn't much to occupy me. I get a call from Toby. "Hi." I answer.

"You left your sweater here."

"Sweater?"

"The Adidas one."

"Oh."

"Where are you headed after school?"

"Quick coffee with a friend. Then formal dress shopping."

"Alright I'll pick you up in ten minutes."

"No that's-" He hangs up. 

Alright I'm officially getting a license. It can't take that long to drive... can it? Maybe I should get one of those Segway things! Or better... a limo to drive me around everywhere.

Toby's car pulls up at the drop off zone and I get in. It still hasn't stopped raining so I'm thankful I didn't need to wait at the bus stop. He passes me the hoodie and asks me where I need to go. I tell him to take me to the coffee shop that I texted Don to meet me at.

Toby drops me off and invites me over for dinner tonight, he's bringing home leftovers. I thank him and greet Don who pulls up in his own car. "Hi Don."

"Hey Kristen." He says and hugs me. I'm a bit taken a back but nevertheless hug back. I pass him his sweater. "Thanks,"

"No worries." We both order and drink our drinks while we talk about the weather. "Remember Harmony?"

"How can I forget?"

"Ha-ha. Well, we caught her boyfriend cheating on her just before formal. She no longer has a date."

"That's horrible."

"Yeah. I was thinking that maybe you could...-"

"No way."

"Why?"

"I'm not beating up a helpless kid."

"Don! That's not what I was saying."

"Oh..."

"I was wondering if you could take her instead?"

"Absolutely! But I don't think she would want me to..."

"Of course she does! Don't tell her I said this but she definitely likes you."

"Really?"

"Yes. What do you think?"

"I'd love to."

"Thanks Don, you're the best. But I gotta go shopping now. See you on Friday. Pick her up at seven."

I sashay out of the coffee shop and feel like an absolute boss. I hope Harmony's happy now. I walk down the street to the formal dresses shop that we all know and love, Molly's. Mum's bridesmaid's dresses came from here. Molly herself specially designed the dresses for Mum. Molly and her twin sister Mara and mum are all good friends, till this day even.

Bridgette, Sierra and Harmony are all waiting for me in Molly's. Bridgette already has tried on five dresses by the looks of it. "Kristen! Everything looks horrible on me! What do I pick?"
