Setting: after TWS

"(Y/N), what are you doing?" Steve folded his arms over his chest, watching as you frantically paced back and forth in his and Bucky's shared apartment.

You'd went there unannounced while no one was home; you had a plan to throw together the best surprise birthday party for your boyfriend, yet everything was going wrong.

"I wanted to throw a surprise party for Bucky." You sighed, dropping about five feet worth of streamers from your hands.

Steve eyed the streamers that now fell on the floor, his eyes then trailing up around the apartment to see half-hung streamers around the living room.

"What's with the—"

You looked up at him, giving him a look that read 'don't even ask.'

"Buck should be back any minute now. Our mission was cut short." Steve said instead, setting his shield by the door.

"Perfect! It's his birthday and I told everyone I invited the wrong time," you threw your hands in the air, moving down the hall and into his bedroom as you spoke, "all he'll be coming home to is a mess of streamers."

"That's not true," you heard Bucky's voice as he shut the door behind him out in the living room. "I'm coming home to my best pal and my best gal."

You immediately felt guilty and emerged from his bedroom, your head hung low.

"I'm really sorry, Buck. I wanted today to be perfect." You frowned as he pulled you into his muscular arms.

"Why? What's so great about 'perfect'?" Bucky asked, planting a kiss on top of your head.

"This is the first birthday you've had the chance to celebrate in over 70 years. I wanted it to be special for you."

"It is special, sweetheart. Like I said, I've got my two favorite people in the world here with me." He grinned, releasing you from his grip.

Steve chuckled, "I'm gonna go shower."

"Okay, well, I've got one of my favorite persons in the world." Bucky teased as Steve disappeared into the bathroom.

"Come here," you rolled your eyes, leading him by the hand down the tiny hallway to his bedroom.

"Is this the kind of birthday present I think it is?" He smirked, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Keep dreaming, Barnes. Here," you chuckled, handing him a small gift bag.

"Oh, I will." He joked, taking the bag from your hands. "What is it?"
