Deep Breaths of Thin Air

Like claws-

Empty breaths tear panic stricken consciousness,

Few words can form

From lacerated lungs.

Gasping with corporeal need,

My lips move

Yet my words refrain,

My spirit flees

This tragic frame.

Dendritic branches of my mind,

Halt the actions which made it mine-

Awareness transcending life

Ethereal endings above the cloud's shrine.

Deep breaths of thin air-

Fail to support life's earthly rhyme,

Collapse without care-

The mirror's but a trap,

We're not defined by the glass.
