Chapter 14
After school, I head back to the hotel I've been staying in and get my things. I check out of my room and head back to Jace's.
The past few days have been overwhelming. With meeting Emma, hearing about Jace's past, and moving in with an almost complete stranger, I'm exhausted. I'm so grateful though. I no longer have to depend on my mother's money to have a place to live. Apparently she's worried about me though. She's been putting more money in my bank account. Not that I give two shits about the woman who blames me for pretty much all the bad things that's happened to her, I appreciate the money.
Jace told me not to worry about anything. He would buy us food and everything. Of course, being who I am, I wouldn't listen to that nonsense. I went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of food and drinks. He's been so nice lately, letting me move in. I mean, I know I'm helping him, but he didn't have to. I see now why he's had a wall up. He doesn't want anyone to see him differently for having Emma. He's protective of her. It's adorable to see how good of a father he is.
I pull up at the house and take the things in. I don't see Jace's car or Chelsea's, so I figure I have the house to myself for a while. I put all the food away and go to the spare room- I guess my room.
The room is pretty cozy and right in between Jace and Emma's rooms. The room is painted in a light grey color with black and white furniture, similar to the kitchen. I unpack my things and put them in the desired places. I change into a pair of yoga pants and a tee-shirt with Bite Me written on the back.
I see the time and decide to head to the kitchen to make dinner. I wonder where everyone is. It's almost 7 o'clock and no one has come in yet. I make the chicken and mix it in with the noodles and sauce. One thing you learn, when your mom hates you, is how to cook. I learned most of everything I know how to cook in the numerous cook books lying around the house. I cook the Chicken Alfredo and set the table, hoping I won't be the only one to eat.
"AAAHHH!" I hear a small voice yell, running from the living room. I look up, a little too late, to see Emma in Jace's arms while they spray me with silly string. I manage to steal Jace's can and attack him and Emma both with the silly string.
"Well, that was unexpected." I laugh, as we all lay on the kitchen floor.
"I didn't expect you to cook us all dinner." He smirks and stands.
"Well I did. Let's go get changed." I smile as we make our way to our separate rooms.
I change quickly and go back to the dining room to see Jace and Emma sitting at the table.
"You didn't have to wait on me." I smile to Jace.
"Well, one of us didn't." He laughs pointing to Emma, who has white sauce all over her small face. I laugh and take a seat next to Jace.
"So how many does that make on the list?" He asks.
"Three."
"Only twelve more to go." He smirks.
We eat and get ready for bed. We say our goodnights and I go to the room which is now mine.
I smile thinking back on the day, close my eyes, and drift away.
