*Mariella's POV*
After we had lunch, Connor and I went to Pinnacle Peak to go hiking. It was an easy hike and since it was just after Christmas there wasn't too many people there. We went up to the highest point and turned around since the rest of the hike was actually pretty boring.
I guess I wasn't paying attention or something. I don't really know. The only thing I knew was that one moment I was looking at Connor as we hiked down the trail and the next I felt searing pain in my right ankle and saw a flash of clear blue sky before the world went black.

When I woke up, I was in a hospital room that was blatantly sterile. Everything was completely white and it made the room feel very cold. I was hooked up to one of those machines that beeped constantly to let the nurses know that my heart was still beating. I looked over to see Connor holding my hand. I asked him about what happened.
"Well you weren't paying attention. You stepped on a rock and broke your ankle. You also landed on a rock when you fell so you blacked out. You wouldn't respond so I had to carry you out. You're heavy by the way."
I made a mock shocked face. "Are you calling me fat?" He actually looked like he believed he said something wrong. "Con, I was kidding. Calm down. Thanks for helping me." I squeezed his hand.
