Tahari

A.j dropped me off a block away from my home because if my mother would've seen me getting out of a different car she would've had a fit. I definitely wasn't looking to get into any more trouble. At least I was consistent with Sina and his red car which she wasn't having neither. I found myself walking along the sidewalk with a few people from school trailing behind, they lived on the same block as me. School has been over for about 30 minutes now. I dug into my pocket and pulled out my cell and saw over 10 missed calls and countless text messages from Jade. I sighed because I felt terrible. I knew that she was worried about me.

I went into my contacts and searched for my home number. I pressed call before sliding my cell to my ear. "Hello", my mother answered with her heavy accent.

"Hey mama, you don't mind if I study over at Jade's house, do you?", I queried as I awaited for an answer.

"Go ahead Tahari, just be careful out there, hear. There was a shooting downtown a few hours ago", she said.

"I'm going to be right around the corner mama.", I said into the phone.

"I understand that but I'm saying this because anything can happen despite where you are, just hurry on there. Do what you have to do and get back here safely.", she said.

"Okay, I'll be home later.", I said.

"Alright baby", she said and with that I ended the call and slid my cell into my pocket as I continued walking.

I changed the route that I was walking and was on my way to Jade's home. As I walked, my mind began drifting off to what happened today, from the apology that I received from Briana to the situation with Sina down to A.j and the death of his little sister. A lot has went down and it definitely has my mind all over the place. I don't even understand how I got this far into something as such. Some of the things that has happened seemed so unreal, not my average day. After a while of walking I found myself walking along the walkway of Jade's home. I walked up the few steps of the porch and rang the doorbell. I awaited as faint dog barks sounded throughout the neighborhood. I then heard the tumblers of the locks unlock and with that Jade opened the door.

She gave me an agitated gaze before speaking. "It's good to see that you are in one piece.", she said as she moved over just enough so I could come in. "Come in Hari, I want to talk to you.", she said holding the door.

I walked in and with that she closed the door behind her. She headed towards her bedroom and I followed behind her. She took a seat on her bed and so did I. She gazed at me. "Tahari what is up with you? I mean you stormed out of the cafeteria, left school. I called you and I heard gunshots and carrying on. You hung up on me and I blew your phone up. I was worried about you, that shit wasn't cool at all.", she said sincerely.
