The admired was beginning to suspect.
Whenever the admirer spoke, he was afraid he just might let something finally incriminating slide through his tightly-built wall, the one he built to protect himself but utter embarrassment and heartbreak.
The admired noticed the shut-off, the difference, or lack even, in the warmness and comfortableness of the admirer's speech and conversation.
His old speech, the admired found, was one he much more enjoyed than the current changes that had been made.
The admired never mentioned it, however, as not to upset the admirer, or to make him change a part of him just because the admired felt odd.
No, he could never get him to do that.
Then it might end up like it had before.
He felt a strong feeling for before, and knew he didn't want it to end up like before.
The strange thing was...
He couldn't put his finger on why.
