Chapter 6

I had let myself go, moving my body in rhythm with the upbeat song and probably danced for about two whole hours without even realizing it, I do get immersed into my dancing at times.

"That was a great work out!" I thought to myself with a grin while making my way to my room to get a well deserved shower. After the hot watered relaxing session, I went on to find my mum who I hadn't seen for what felt like decades. She was sitting in the living room reading a crisp book, it looked new. Something else was new, sitting patiently at the tale, all wrapped up in ribbons. After giving it a closer look, I couldn't help but screech out in joy seeing my name on it, "Thank you, thank you, thank you so much mom!" I couldn't believe my eyes; life had gotten so much better now. I can't believe she actually bought me a new phone. Pouncing on her and kissing her all over her pretty young face, I portrayed all my love for her. I gave her the affection that she deserved.

"No problem sweetie, anything for my doll." she hugged me back. I stopped for a minute and gave her a thorough look; I have never been given a phone because I have never needed one. "Mum, why did you buy me a phone anyways?" the pretty smile on her face was replaced with worry lines on her forehead as she sighed out loudly.

"W-What is it, mum...?" I asked expecting the worst. "What's going on?" Mum looked really nervous now and it was really freaking me out within.

"My boss from the last job I had called me." I literally froze at those words. Did she want to go back to that hell hole? I asked myself with an involuntary shudder passing through me.

"Stop looking so worried, sweetie. I'm not going anywhere near that horrid place again, you hear me?" All the breath that had left my lungs came rushing back, along with my smile. Thank god I silently said, relieved. "So what did they want from you then?" I asked, crossing my fingers.

"They offered me another position, those lovely people, the catch being it was all the way in Malibu.'' Her face was still contorted and she looked in pain, her eyes sadly bearing the good news to me. She was not as excited as she should be because as far as I knew, she absolutely loved working with her company back home. She worked in the accounts' field. So why is she not happy about it? When I voiced out my thoughts, she replied with, "I am happy, honey..." she paused for a minute before continuing not making eye contact, "this new position requires me to travel, a lot. I don't want to leave you on your own for weeks at a time. I know you're old enough to look after yourself but I think it may be too soon. So soon after..." I looked at my mum and just smiled at her, making my eyes show her that I understand and that she need not worry. I squeezed her tight from where I still sat on her.

"Mum, you are no way putting your life on hold for me, not now, not ever. We have already moved away from your amazing life just to get away from dad. You have given up your dream job and friends for me, it was all you had and I was being selfish. Do this for yourself," I smirked at her as I continued, "After all; I do have a fancy new phone that will help me contact you from now onwards, huh?" Mum just grinned at me like she always does, with so much adoration and hugged me back.

"When do you leave from here and for how long?" I asked as we pulled away.

Again my mum looked nervous, "I leave tomorrow for almost two weeks..." she said quietly, "that is, only if you agree!"

"Okay then, mum I guess I can manage myself for just 14 days. Let's go and get you all packed up." I hollered in a weird voice, grabbing her by the arm and dragging her to her bedroom, both of us giggling along the way.

Once we had my mum's baggage all packed up, she turned to me with another box in her hand. Woah, was this day full of surprises? I opened it and saw what looked like a key belonging to some vehicle.

"What's this for?"

"Come with me and I will show you". She led me outside to our garage; a smug grin on her face like it was plastered there. She opened the door and there was the most beautiful car I had ever seen, in front of my eyes, that is. I had believed my mums car was the coolest one out there, but boy! Was I wrong... In my garage stood a black VW Beetle Convertible, with purple interiors, parked neatly. It was like I had fallen in love.

"You're going to need a way of getting to and from school, now that I won't be here every day. I know you have had your driver's license for about a year now, rotting away in your wallet. So it's about time you got a car of your own."

"I can't believe you got me a phone and a car, this is amazing mommy, thank you so much! I could never thank you enough!" I cried as I hugged her, letting my emotions get the better of me. I was so lucky to be related to someone as generous and loving as my own mother.

We made our way inside and I made mum her favorite dish till date, a.k.a. macaroni and cheese with chicken and ham through it. Might sound crappy but tastes delicious every time. Once we had our stomachs full till the brim, we made our way towards our respective beds but then decided against it and ended up sleeping beside each other in mum's room. One of the reasons I decided on sleeping with my mum tonight was because she will be leaving tomorrow for a whole two weeks and even if I acted all confident about living alone, now that I actually have to do it.... Made me feel lonely. But that's the least I can do for my own mother. I owe it to her. I am alive today just because of her... and well, my diary.

I dreamed off into unconsciousness with a smile on my face.

I woke up at around half 6 and noticed my mum wasn't in the bed with me like we went off to sleep the previous night. I made my way downstairs looking for her, walking into the kitchen and felt relieved finding a note in there, for me.

Darling Lina,

So sorry that I had to leave while you were still peacefully asleep, but in a way I'm glad, I would have cried all over again and would've changed my mind and stayed back. I love you sweetie, I have left some money for you in an envelope inside the kitchen drawer next to the fridge. See you in a couple of weeks, and never forget I am always just a phone call away, in your new cell phone.

Love, mum.

I put the note down with a fond smile on my face and made my way upstairs to get ready for school, I was practically buzzing with excitement to ride my new car.

As I left the house, I looked inside the empty house and whispered, "Love you too, mum."
