Here's something I figured out:
Professor Trelawney isn't the idiot she tends to look like.
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, at Christmas there's only 12 people around the dinner table. Trelawney comes along and Dumbledore stands up to draw a chair for her.
Trelawney refuses to sit down because she claims that if 13 people dine together, the first to rise up is the first to die.
Except, Ron had Scabbers in his pocket.
This made them 13 when Trelawney arrived, not 12.
Dumbledore stood up first.
He died first.
