I stared at the brown stone building for quite some time before gathering up the courage to advance towards it. Looking down at my papers, I made sure this was the correct place. It was.
Reaching the wooden doors, I rung the doorbell and waited for an answer.
Eventually, a woman with red hair and big round glasses answered the door, looking younger than I expected.

"Oh! You must be Ms. Pinkston, please come in.",
I stepped inside instantly smelling the stale stench of corn bread and stuffing. I've always hated Thanksgiving. The foyer was a mess with toys and various kid sized shoes.

"My name is Cory and sorry for the mess. The kids are always doing activities. This way please!",
Following the perky assistant she guided me to a pink and dotted designed door.
Cory turned to me and motioned to the door.
"Just walk right in. She stayed alone in her room all day today.",

"Thank you.", I replied.
Taking a deep breath, I turned the door knob and entered the room. I saw a small lanky little girl with strawberry blonde hair sitting on the bed. Reading what looked to be like Harry Potter.
Not noticing my arrival she didn't look up until my heels clacked against the wooden floor transitioning from the carpet I was on prior.
She stared at me with questioning blue eyes, silently asking who I am. The resemblance is striking.

"Hi. My name's Aaliyah.",
I sounded so awkward, I hope she doesn't get uncomfortable because of me.

"Lilli.", I heard her mumble before looking back down at her book.
I walked over to a nearby bean bag and sat down, sitting lower than I expected. Lili chuckled at that but quickly stopped when I shot a look. Trying to beat the quick sand effect and get in a comfortable position.

"So. I never get visitors. What are you here for Aaliyah.",
This little girl had nerve. By the minute I'm seeing Iain in her more and more.
"Well Lilli. I'm a friend of your father's.",

Her eyes shot open wide when I said that.
"My...my dad? You know him?",
Lili put down her book, putting her full attention on what I was gonna say next.

"Yes. We're very close. Once I heard he has a child, I just had to come meet you.",

"But....why didn't he come too? Is....Is he still sick?",
I didn't know how to answer that. I didn't want to upset her yet I didn't want to lie.

"Lilli...he's getting better. He doesn't know I'm here.",

"Oh. So you just came to meet me...that's all?",

"Yes....",
Lilli motioned her eyes down cast and murmured a quiet "Oh.",

"Anndd", I loudly exclaimed
"To get to know you! Because guess what Lilli?",
She smiled as I shouted those words dramatically.
"What?",
I struggled to get up from the bean bag purposely, hearing her laugh joyfully.
Once up, I did jazz hands.
"I'm here to adopt you as well! Well, I want to at least. I'm hoping I can, if you would be open to-.",

Lili did not once falter in her smiles, interrupting mid sentence.
"Here to adopt me? No one ever wanted to adopt me before.",
I sat down next to her and sighed with exaggeration.

"Well I'm here to. I want your father happy and I want you happy. This way, you both will be able to see each other.",

"Are you sure you're just "a friend" to my father?",

Seeing Lili's eyes look at me, inquiring an interesting almost gossip worthy answer.
I laughed aloud, amused by her bluntness.

"Well yeah. Make sure you're ready tomorrow. I notified the Dean of my interest to adopt you. The paperwork should be done tomorrow afternoon. You should be grateful you're a Pliegue, they are willing to expedite everything.",

"I won't have to call you mom will I?",

"Only if you want to....", Talking about awkward.
