Onity was born as a species that has four fingers (claws?) per hand and three toes (claws?) per foot. This is what he can control.
As a result, he's only able to move four fingers and three toes. When he is in his human form, he can move his thumb, index finger, and middle finger freely by themselves, however the ring finger and pinky finger take on the same movements almost as if they are one.
The same goes for his toes. He can move the big toe on its own but the other four pair up and take on the same movements.
It took a l o n g time for Mike and Tyler to notice this and they had to admit that was pretty weird to see. Onity didn't even think much about this until the two noticed it. It's never gotten in his way except for when he's tried to do certain signs with his hands. He can't properly do the "rock on" sign, for example.
This also means that though he could learn to read sign language, he'd never be able to properly perform it.
