2007

"Arrr! I'm the captain of this mighty ship. Ye must follow my orders or be sent to work the bilge!" Riley is standing in the middle of the abandoned house slash shack we discovered last summer while running in the woods (see picture attached).

"Aye aye!" I salute Riley and stay in that position, hand on forehead, awaiting her further orders.

She starts to pace back and forth and I take that as my cue to lower my hand. Then abruptly, she stops and looks directly at me. "Make sure the ropes are in place and um . . ." Riley trails off in indecision. "and hoist the anchor! We've got to get out of 'ere soon if we want to get to treasure island in time."

"Aye aye!" I salute once again and immediately go about completing the duties assigned to me.

I first go about checking the ropes. Good.

Then, I go over to the rope holding the anchor in the ground, and slowly pull it up.

Once I'm done, I go back over to Riley—er, I mean, the captain of this ship.

"Cap'n" I say to catch her attention. She whips around from leaning over a table with what looks to be a map on it. "The ropes are good and the anchor is lifted," I assure her quickly.

She nods in acknowledgement and cups her hands around her mouth. "Pirates ahoy! The anchor be weighed! We are officially on our way. Let's head to the quarters for some grog!"

And with that, she drops the mighty tough guy façade and asks me, "Do you want to be the captain now?"

"Sure," I say with a grin on my face.
