Spencer gave me an approving nod as Jason stared at me, his mouth hanging open. "You're what?" He practically yelled, his voice echoing up the stairwell.
I quickly slapped my hand on his mouth, shutting him up. "If you want us to get killed then I suggest you keep yelling."
He nodded, a scared look crossed his face as I let go and dropped my hand to my side. "It's the only way to stop them from killing," I paused for a second, my eyes turning soft, "and to save Norrie."
His eyes turned from disagreement to calmness and that was when I knew that I've gotten to his weak spot. Norrie. We were running out of time and if they wanted me then they're going to get me. "Alright, we have to move fast. You two need to get out off campus-"
"Not without Norrie." Jason butted in. He looked like a five year old whose mother was shouting at him because he had to leave the playground.
I scolded at him for being so darn stubborn but what could I do? The love of his life was in danger and he couldn't help her. "Cam is there, right? He'll keep her safe." Spencer said to Jason in reassurance and I sighed with relief because Spencer wasn't being an ass like he usually was.
"Yes, you know Cam will protect Norrie even though he's so smug." I rolled my eyes, making Jason chuckle.
He nodded after that and we began discussing. "But, I need to see if she's alive," Jason added before we planned out their escape, "just for a minute."
"Jason," I trailed off. A lot could happen in a minute. They could see us and start shooting, they could kill Spencer and Jason and take me captive and there was no way I was leaving those two idiots alone looking through a window where the shooters could see them.
"Please, Lexie," he begged with pleading eyes, "I need to know if she's okay."
I nodded and took out my gun. "Fine," I said, "but only for a minute."
Jason lit up like a Christmas tree as he opened the door to rush out but I grabbed his arm and pulled him back in and slammed the door shut. "Oh, hey! Let's just walk out with no weapons, no way of defending ourselves just to see your girlfriend with a bunch of shooters lurking around but to get killed before you even lay your eyes on her." I said sarcastically, crossing my arms in annoyance.
Jason said nothing; Spencer just stood on the side. "Hey, have a bit of respect! His girlfriend is in danger and you're going off at him like he's your child who ate a bunch of candy when you told him not to!"
My anger began to settle in and my rage was going to come out at any given second. "Alright then," I shoved my gun in his hand, "you take the gun, you defend yourselves and if you don't take the safety off then oh well, you'll get shot and bleed a slow death." My anger couldn't control itself. Spencer had that effect on me but I was the one trying to stop Jason from getting himself killed and if he wanted it sugar coated then he would just have to rely on Spencer. "And don't forget I'm sacrificing myself for you idiots so nothing is stopping me right now from you two walking out that door."
It was silent for a minute as I collected my thoughts. "Don't be stupid, Alexis." Spencer shoved the gun back into my hand and I snatched it off him, incredibly frustrated with how he was acting in that moment.
I sighed and rechecked the gun to make sure the safety was actually off. "Alright, the hall is just across the courtyard and from what I can see, they're all looking for me and surrounding this very building so you all need to listen. Once we make it to the hall, we'll take a quick glance inside and once we confirm that Norrie and Cam are still alive and unharmed, I'll take you two to the back of the campus where you run to the cops who should be surrounding the place and I'll go up to the surveillance room to get Maggie and to turn myself in." I took a deep breath and shined my flashlight in their faces, they nodded and I turned the flashlight off and put it back into my pocket. "Okay, let's go. Stay close and don't make a sound. Not even a breath."
