Hiding behind a tree with no movement for at least twenty minutes was beginning to get suspicious. Did the cops even get the right address? I scanned the building once more before actually moving my feet to the front door.
I took a deep breath and slowly turned the handle to reveal a dark and deserted hallway. The door creaked as it fully opened, I didn't have a flashlight but I made my way by feeling along the wall. I felt uneasy, scared and afraid. Somebody could jump out at any given moment and take my life like it was nothing.
I think about Norrie and how she needed me. I couldn't let her be tortured like Maggie was and I knew what these people were capable of. I continued to trail along the wall; it felt like this place could be haunted with its limited lighting and its eerie silence. I thought of what Alexis would do, she wouldn't be afraid.
My hands reached the corner of the wall and I turned it to find nothing in sight. It was just another long hallway. By now, I was walking as fast as I could down these endless corridors and empty rooms. Nobody seemed to be here and I didn't know if that was a good thing or not. It was bad because Alexis and Norrie weren't here and good because nobody was here to kill me.
But I still continued to search.
I went through a few empty rooms with nothing but a bed and it seemed that almost every room was identical. I found another corridor that I knew I hadn't been in and I found another room. I clutched the door handle and opened it, hoping it would reveal something. My hopes were almost shattered when nobody was inside.
I guess I wasn't expecting anyone to be in here and as I scanned the room, I saw a chair in the corner with rope beside it. I noticed an empty table opposite the chair and I frowned at the sight in front of me. I could almost see either Alexis or Norrie sitting in that chair, tied up and their freedom taken from them.
I couldn't be in here anymore. It was clear that nobody was here but there had been. I didn't know when they were here or where they were now but I knew that somebody was here. As I began to leave the building, I saw a flashlight shine through the dark hallway. My stomach jumped at the thought that I could take my last breath.
I heard footsteps approaching with that light. It sounded like many people were coming and I was beyond terrified. I tried to find another way out but I seemed to have backed myself into a corner. I could lock myself in that tiny room but the thought that Norrie or Alexis were there wasn't a place I would like to be.
I moved towards the beaming light. When I reached the end, I stepped out in front of whoever it was and raised my hands in surrender. "Freeze!" Somebody yelled at me. I stayed in my place, not daring to move a muscle. So, this was how I'm going to die.
I took in a gulp and squinted as the light was shining brightly in my eyes. I heard somebody sigh in frustration and drop his flashlight. "Put your weapons down, it's all clear." I opened my eyes to reveal Mr. Archer and a team of police officers. They all wore bullet proof vests and they all held guns, I sighed a huge relief. "Jason, what on earth are you doing here?"
All of the police officers brushed past me to clear the rest of the building. "I came to get Norrie and Alexis." I scratched the back of my neck in embarrassment, knowing that I failed.
He shook his head in disapproval and began walking me back outside. "It's very dangerous to come here alone, Jason," he scowled at me, "you shouldn't have come. You could have gotten yourself killed."
We ended up outside where cop cars were surrounding the place and a bunch of cops were standing around. It was nearly nightfall as we reached Mr. Archer's car. "I know but I had to see if Norrie and Alexis were in there."
