MAINE'S POV

One cold Friday late afternoon,  the temperature ranges from 18°C to 24°C is very unusual to me during the month of May. Sanay ang katawan ko sa summer heat ng Pilipinas. Pero dito sa Utah, normal lang. I noticed na ang haba ng maghapon. Sunrise at around 6 and sunset sometimes end at around past 8pm.

Andito na naman ako sa favorite part ng bahay.. Ang porch. I cooked a simple rice meal toppings, may green salad and fruits. Dapat full meal. Pero di ko kailangang humataw. Dalawa na kasi kaming kumakain. Just enough, baka lumobo ako at mahirapan akong ilabas itong baby ko. While having my early dinner, a familiar car stopped in front of my house. Yes, it was Grey. Nag hi and hello kami and...

G: just starting?

M: yeah!

G: would you mind if I join you?

M: not at all.. Get off and join me. (Ngiti kong pagyaya sa kanya)

G: alright.. Thanks Nicomaine!

Tumayo ako to get extra plate for Grey. When I was inside, he knocked twice as a sign na andun sya sa labas.

G: can I come in?

M: sure.. I am here in the kitchen!

G: hi again! Lemme help you.

M: oh, it is alright.. I might get use of it. Let me do this.

G: and let me bring those outside.

M: okay.

Habang palabas kami papunta sa porch nag-uusap kami.

G: how was your day?

M: a little tired because of my severe morning sickness!

G: really? You said.. SEVERE?

M: (chuckles) yeah, that how I described it. I may be overeacting but still it is my morning sickness.

G: to ease the morning sickness, eat bread.. mash potatoes. Those rich in carbohydrates. Increase your fluid intake. Water with Lemon or lime. Try eating ice cream or ice pops, but not too much. Drinking Ginger tea may also help.. Eat crackers too!

Inayos ni Grey ang table namin. May dala syang turkey sandwich.

M: want some rice toppings?

G: Asians do love rice..

M: oh yes especially Filipinos. Try this..

G: thanks.

M: Salad best goes with your turkey sandwich.

Masyado ata akong madaldal.. E kasi naman, maghapon akong walang kasama sa bahay. Then we continue eating.

G: the rice toppings is good!

M: thank you. SALAMAT!

G: SAMA-MAT?

M: it's SA – LA – MAT.. meaning thank you. It is a Tagalog – Filipino word..

Binubulong- bulong lang ni Grey yung word na sinabi ko.

G: SALA-MAT Nicomaine.

M: I should be the one to say thank you.

G: SALA-MAT for teaching me this word.

M: You're welcome. I am going to teach you more Tagalog words.

G: cool..

Nagpatuloy kami sa pagkain.

G: so, what are your plans?
