CHAPTER 5

Makailang ulit akong nagbuntong hininga sa loob ng kotse bago ko napagdesisyunan na bumaba. Halo halo na ang nararamdaman ko. This is it. Eto na talaga yung kursong gusto kong kunin. I will have to start a new with new people. And above all, this is a fresh start for me. Kahit naman sa iisang school pa rin kami ni Tessa, at least magkaibang building at magkaibang course. The only downfall of my decision is that hindi ko nanaman makakasama sila Faith at Roxy.

When I reached my room, naguumpisa na pala ang klase. I’m about five minutes late. Great. Nasakin ang atensyom for sure. Kung bakit ba naman kasi ang tagal kong nagpakalma sa loob ng kotse.

I knocked at the door and the professor automatically looked at me, pati na rin ang mga estudyante. Lumapit sya sa pinto at inabot ko ang class card. He turned his attention back to his class.

“Alright, time to meet our third new student for this day.” Aniya before gesturing me to go in the middle front of the room and introduce myself.

He said third new student. Ibig sabihin ay hindi lang ako ang bago. I didn’t bother to look around the room, sadyang nakafocus na lang ang mata ko sa sa gitnang bahagi ng room without even maintaining an eye contact with them.

“Uhm, Maxine Andre Ventenilla Buenavista. 19.” Tipid kong sabi.

“So, miss Buenavista, you are a shifter?” Tanong ng professor.

“Yes, sir.” Sagot ko dito.

“Ano naman ang dati mong course?”

“Ah, business ad, sir.”

“Oh, from the business field to the medical field. Ang laki naman ng tinalunan mo. Why did you shift, miss Buenavista?” Tanong pa nya.

I smiled at his question. “Somebody told me that college is about taking up what I like and not about doing something for someone. That’s why I’m here, I’m following what I want.”

“A smart choice and an honest answer from the second grand daughter and the middle daughter of two well-known physicians.” He noTed. Napatingin ako sakanya. Kilala nya si daddy? “I just hope you could give Dr. Fernando Buenavista and Dr. Enrico Beunavista justice, miss Maxine.” Dugtong pa nito.

Hindi nakaligtas sakin ang munting reaksyon ng klase. My lolo has been a well-known physician during his time and dad kept on telling us that lolo has inspired him to do the same. Kaya nga si daddy ngayon ay isa sa board of judges ng isang malaking hospital dito sa Pilipinas.

Tho nasa medical field si daddy, love had found a way para makapag-asawa sya ng babaeng may hilig sa business. Well, hindi naman pure business, kasi si mommy malaki rin ang interes sa pag-organize ng kung anu-anong event. She organized a birthday party for my lolo before and that starTed her love affair with my daddy. When my ate Jane was born, mom decided na sa isang event  na lang magfocus – weddings.

Siguro with the Buenavista’s influence sa society kaya medyo lumago ang business ni mommy. May nagiisang branch na rin kami sa US. Hindi naman kami ganon kayaman talaga but we have more than enough.
