A small chuckle escaped his lips as he walked forward. You finally turned your head to look at the man slowly make his way towards you. Examining his every move you began to wonder what his plan was now. There's no way he could try and deny himself being Kira; this was too obvious. He would have to kill you.
"Light" you said sternly taking a step back "don't do anything you'll regret"
Light raised a brow amused at your comment "regret?" He invited you to elaborate
"If you kill me L will know you're Kira. It's just too obvious" you told him "it's not a smart move on your part, trust me"
Light halted his movements and gave you a strange look. The look of confusion was quickly replaced with a smirk as he realized what you were thinking. "Oh, _____" he sighed as he took a few more steps forward, closing the gap between your bodies "you and L are so much a like"
"Light" you warned as you accidentally backed yourself into a wall. Light once again pushed his chest up against yours.
"Too smart" he whispered "too cautious"
You glared up into his eyes as he looked down into yours. His hot breath hit your forehead as his body was so close. "You can't kill me Light" you repeated. Without warning light lifted his hand and slammed it on the brick wall behind you.
"I'm not going to kill you" he said sharply. This took you by surprise.
"You're not?" You questioned "then what are you going to do?"
Light shook his head seemingly disappointed you didn't understand "no I'm not" he said once more "there's no need, you're not threat to me" light backed himself away giving you room to breath. You were deciding wether to continue with the conversation, but decided it might not be wise to tell him you had planned to tell L. Maybe he thought you would stay quiet for him? You weren't sure what his motives for keeping you alive were. You grew irritated and scared thinking of other possibilities he has in mind.
"How did you do it?" You finally spoke up after a few moments of thinking.
"We can talk about that on our date" light smiled. Shivers run down your spin as you see the cold callous stare of the man that stood before you. It was probably unwise to defy him. But, you could also be leading yourself into a trap if you do obey.
"How can I trust you?" You asked him. Light gave you a slightly annoyed face as he dropped his smile.
"Did I not just save your life? Why would I do that just to kill you?" If he was trying to convince himself that you weren't going to tell L only because he saved you, then he was the most hopeful man alive. You had no intentions of forgetting this event just because he stopped your attack. Though it was appreciated.
You struggled to find what to do. Obviously bystanders in Japan were no help to you. If light there to whisk you off somewhere even if there were hundreds of people around no one would come to your defense. "I..." you began slowly. You were in not real position to oppose him. You knew this. The only way out of this was to use your brain "...okay" your voice seemed to fade a little.
Pleased with your answer light held out his hand to you. You reluctantly accepted the gesture as he pulled you down the alleyway back onto the street. Leaving your deceased attacker behind. "I'll keep a better eye on you this time" he joked as he pulled you through the crowd. You gave him no answer as you allowed him to guide you.
After what seemed like only minutes Light stopped in front of a tall building. He lead you away from the crowd and into the entrance releasing your hand as he did so. You looked around to see a very upscale restaurant. Gold and red painted the place with a vide of richness. You doubted this was a place you could just walk into without reservation. You glacé up at light only to see him smiling.
"Good evening" an older gentleman greeted you and Light "do you have reservations?" He asked with a sweet smile.
"Yagami" Light said simply. You scrunched your eyebrows in confusion. There was no way Light could have gotten a reservation this quick. Sure enough the man looks down at his paper searching for the name only to find it. He looked up and nodded still smiling and motioned for you and Light to follow him. Both of you obliged as he lead you to a far corner of the room. You and Light took your seat as the man left you with two menus.
Light opened his and began looking at food without a care in the world. You never once took your eyes away from him, purely suspicious of his intentions. Your lack of movement grabbed Lights attention as he looked up at you "what?" His question was simple but for some reason you struggled for the right answer.
"Why are we here?" You decided being upfront was the only way you'd get any answers out of the man. Light sighed heavily and closed his menu. A very serious look came into his eyes as he learned back.
"Have you decided what you want?" He asked ignoring your question.
"Fuck the food" you declared being just as serious as him "explain to me what is going on"
Light shook his head "I think you'll like pasta. I'll just order you a pasta. Red or white sauce?" He continued to change the subject.
You slammed your hand down getting his attention "light!" You growled quietly "I'm not playing games with you"
Light seemed to grow angry at your defiance. He scrunched his eyebrows as his mouth formed a flat line. "Do not embarrass me" he said in a low angry voice "order your food and then we'll talk"
You leaned back in your seat and let out a huff. Looking down at the menu you picked the first thing that looked remotely good. You had no real intentions of eating. Once the waiter came and took your orders and menus you looked up and light impatiently.
"Have I waited long enough?" Your voice had a cold edge to it as you clenched your fist.
Light looked at you calmly, showing not indications of worry. "I am Kira" he confessed. You looked at him blankly.
"Obviously" you spat
Light gave you a small smile "You're not going to tell anyone" he whispered
You gave him the best 'oh really?' Look you could "and why wouldn't I? Are you gonna kill me? Even if you threaten me there's no way to know if I actually will tell once I'm away from you" you mentally slapped yourself for saying everything on your mind. You had always had trouble keeping your mouth shut.
To your surprise Light only seemed to grow more amused at your words. He closed his eyes and wore a wide smile as be spoke "____, I have to be honest" he began "I've done some personal snooping on you. Just to get a feel on what kind of person you are"
You felt your blood run cold as his words an confidence. You hoped what he was about to say wouldn't be as damaging as you imagined. Light took note of your distress and let out a chuckle.
"You're a very interesting girl" he said with a hint of flirtation. He reached our his hand and caressed you cheek. You'd didn't fight his touch as he continued to speak "came here all the way from Massachusetts" Light let out a little hum "but, where did you come from before then?"
You were half tempted to stand and leave, but that would get you no where. You and Light both knew where he was going with this. Be found out the only thing that could ruin you and your career.
"I looked and looked and it seemed like there was no trace of you" he continued "I thought 'that's odd' because obviously someone can't just randomly appear in Massachusetts with no background" Light stopped himself as the waiter came with the food.
"Here you are" he smiled as he set down your plate last. Without realizing what you two were talking about be simply placed a hand on your shoulder "Let me know if you need anything else" with that he was gone.
Light seemed as uninterested in the food now as you had been earlier. His gaze never left you as you assumed he was studying you're ever reaction. You said nothing as he continued "Harvard, huh?" He asked almost mocking "how'd you get into there? You must have gotten really good grades"
You felt a nervous sweat drip down the back of you neck. You wished Light would drop dead this very moment so you no longer had to endure his torment.
"At least, that's what I thought" his eyes seemed hungry for something. Maybe he enjoyed your panic, maybe it felt good to him. "It's so strange isn't it?" He asked seemingly off topic now. His gaze moved towards the window next to you as he seemed to bask in the late afternoon view. "When good people die young"
"light-" you choked out but he silenced you with a 'shush'
"You're not (y/n)" he said flatly still looking out the window. "You're am imposter"
"What do you want?" You demanded to know. This grabbed his attention as he looked at you.
"The same thing you do" he answered "success" the same creepy smile appeared in his face once more "that's why I kill, just like how you killed. Sometimes you need to-"
You cut him off instantly "I have never killed anyone" you growled
Light looked at you disappointed "so the opportunity just fell in your hands?" He asked "a young girl with amazing grades dies after graduation so you take her name, her place, her academic history, and use it for your own sake?" You shook your head in a pitiful attempt at denial, but light wasn't fooled. "Impersonation is a serious crime, ____" Light warned "you could get quite a few years in jail for it"
"Less than murder" you spat back
Light closed his eyes once more and shook his head "you don't get it do you? I'm not saying you can't tell because I'll tell on you and we'll both go down" he explained "you can't tell because once it comes out that up until you turned 19 you were a wild party animal who impersonated a girl in order to turn your life around because you fucked it up, all your credibility will be lost. It will be your word against my own, someone whose had amazing grades and is doing everything he possibility can to catch Kira" he let out an breathy laugh "they might even accuse you of murdering that girl"
You felt tears swell up in your eyes, but you fought them back. You knew everything he was saying was true. No one would have any true reason to believe you over Light. He has proof of your crimes but you had no proof of his. You sigh in defeat but before you can speak Light interrupts your thoughts.
"Poor, _____" he fake cried "such a pretty little thing shouldn't be so upset, I wouldn't take you down unless you made me"
"What do you want from me?" The question was soaked in defeat. You knew Light had the upper hand in this situation. Now was not the time for thinking how to get out of this, you would have to consider that later. Right now you need to please him enough for him to let you go.
Light seemed to have no intention on making that easy unfortunately. The triumphant smirk on his face sickened you. "Maybe we could get to know each other, maybe you'll actually enjoy being around me. This doesn't have to be a bad thing, _____. I'm trusting you with my secret. This is like a blossoming friendship"
You held back a snort in response. He obviously wasn't trusting you with his secret. He was forcing it on you and threatening you to keep it. You kept your mouth shut and gave him a small nod "maybe" you said simply.
The tension in his eyes faded slightly with this. He seemed more relaxed with your cooperation. "I think we'll grow very close. Closer than you can imagine"
