Chapter 4

They had both fallen asleep on the bathroom floor after sitting there together in an affectionate silence for hours.

"Dad." A voice whispered from the door. Beckett's eyes flitted open to see the small redhead. The girl smiled and waved, "Hi." She said shyly. Beckett smiled back, and lifted her head up from Rick's chest. She stood up, leaving Rick on the floor. She crept over to the door where the girl stood.

"Shhh." Beckett said, putting a finger to her lips. The girl backed away as Beckett stepped out of the bathroom, quietly closing the door behind her.

They walked out into the living room together, Beckett putting her hair up in a messy ponytail. She realized the older woman wasn't there.

"Where did-" She began, but the girl answered her before she finished her question. "Oh, my Gram? She left to go to an audition. She's an actress. I'm Alexis." She said, sticking her hand out for Beckett to shake just like her father had. "Rick's daughter?" She asked, slowly reaching out and grasping Alexis' hand. Alexis nodded.

"He was up late last night writing a few chapters of Storm Fall." Alexis said. "Wait," Beckett said, "Storm Fall? Does that mean what I think it means?" She was horrified. If Rick stopped writing, what would she have for comfort? She had read all his books over 5 times each. They were what kept her going, they were exactly what got her through her mother's murder.

"Yes, he's killing of Derek Storm. But don't worry," she smiled,"Last night he said he had a plot for a new series. I think he said something about a woman who was a detective and solved murders or something similar to that." She shrugged. Beckett's jaw dropped. He was going to write about...her. Richard Castle was making a series of books based on her. She couldn't believe it. Alexis looked confused. Beckett immediately closed her mouth and grinned. "I should be going." Beckett said, looking to find her shoes which Rick had apparently taken off her feet when they had gotten back to his loft. "But aren't you going to tell my Dad?" Alexis asked, frowning.

"Look." She said gently,"I'm a cop. Your Dads a writer. It just doesn't fit. He did a sweet thing, not letting me drive myself home while I was drunk and letting me stay. I just... I'm not ready for this."

She heard a voice from behind her, "Ready for what?" She jumped, letting out a small yelp. She placed her hand on her chest, breathing heavily. She turned around to see Rick smiling, but he looked sluggish. "I was just telling Alexis that I was going to go." Beckett said, biting the inside of her mouth.

"You aren't leaving here before I get your number." He said strictly, as if he were commanding her. How would this work? Even though she didn't know what would happen, she went along with it. She wanted to be spontaneous. She spotted a pen on the bar and and grabbed it, pushing her thumb down on the end, making it click. She reached down and lifted Rick's hand up and started writing her phone number on it. When she was done she drew a small heart under it and blew on it, letting it dry. She then dropped his hand, smiling whilst biting her lip. She ran and grabbed her shoes from the bedroom slipping them onto her feet. She ran back up to Rick, seeing that Alexis had left the room. She stood on her tip-toes placing her lips against his ear and whispered,"Thank you. See you soon." After that she strutted out of the room, opening the front door and leaving. When she closed the door she rested against it, smiling. Was he her angel sent from Heaven to make her joyous again? To make her the person she was before her mother died? Who knows? All she knew was that she wanted to live In the moment, and get as much out of it as she could.
