Chapter Twenty-Eight

Violet's face drained of all color as she quickly pushed away from Finn. She held her hands up to ward him off and braced herself for the pain of the transformation. Her eyes were tightly scrunched and her body tensed. Once, when she was twelve, she had experienced the pain of shrinking, but the worst part was growing back up, it hurt worse than shrinking. She never wanted to experience that again and was scared that at any moment the torture would start. When nothing happened she slowly opened her eyes and looked at her body, "Nothing happened?" she whispered softly. She ignored Finn's worried look and twisted around to examine her whole body. Amazement flooded her senses and she let out a joyous laugh.

"Is everything alright?" Finn asked. He was slightly worried about Violet. First she pushed him away and looked like she was bracing herself for pain and now she was laughing like nothing was wrong.

"Everything is perfect!" she smiled, "It worked. I didn't shrink or experience any pain. I'm free!" Letting out another laugh she launched herself at Finn and wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you."

Finn smiled contently and rested his chin on the top of her head. "I have to admit, I was a little worried you would freak out on me when I told you what I did. I wasn't even sure if it would work." He felt like a huge weight had been lifted off his chest. No longer would he have to worry about losing Violet. He had finally found his mate, his true mate, and he would never let her go.

Violet nuzzled her head into his chest, "I'm glad you tried and even more happy that it worked. I'm just a little scared about telling my father and Sage." She gave a shudder, thinking about their reactions. Sage wouldn't be as bad as her father. Violet figured he would understand and possibly be relieved, but her father, dear Lord she was scared of his reaction.

"It'll be alright," he murmured soothingly, kissing her head. "I'll be right there with you. If they can't accept that we're legally married then they're not worth our attention. Besides, Raine and the others will be behind us too, you're part of our family now."

Tears pricked the corners of Violet's eyes as she realized that she finally had a family and a home. After years of wandering aimlessly and attaching herself to Noelle, it was nice to finally have a solid place to call home. "Do we have to tell them now?" she whispered woefully.

Finn pulled back and gave her a mock offended look, "Is the night over? I believe we are still on our date. I'm not planning on ruining it by talking to anyone. It's just you and me baby." She smiled up at him happily, letting him see the love shining in her eyes. She still couldn't bring herself to say the words for fear that all of this was some dream. A dream that would be ripped from her arms without a seconds notice if she wasn't careful. He wanted her to trust him and she did, it was herself she didn't trust. Her life had been filled with too much pain and disappointment for her to fully jump on board the love train.

Finn recognized the glimmer in her eyes and had to physically stop from grinning like an idiot. Even if she hadn't said it yet, he knew that she loved him. Hopefully she would say it to him soon, but for now he was just happy knowing. He leaned down and kissed her lightly on the lips, putting all of his emotions into the touch.

There was a slight knock on the door of the orangery that startled them out of their little world. "Come in," Finn called irritably, wondering who would disturb him tonight. It had to be an emergency if anyone was bothering him.

Raine entered the room, looking angry and worried. He sent an apologetic look at Finn before clearing his throat awkwardly. "Congratulations?" Finn nodded with a smile and Raine gave a relieved sigh, "Oh good, I was hoping I hadn't come too early." He smiled warmly at Violet, before focusing all of his attention on Finn. Raine's face turned hard as he started relaying the important information. "Noelle was just visited by Ayumu which means that he's somewhere on the estate."
