Thirty-Two | Motel Denver

"Hi, it's Cassie." I said down the phone. Kol and I had been travelling for what felt like forever, but had finally made it to Denver.

"Oh, hello, dear. You're Jeremy's friend." A womans voice on the other end replied.

"Yeah. I'm coming down to surprise Jeremy, is he home?" I asked. She was a family member that Jeremy had been staying with.

"No. He's gone to the park for a while. If you wanted to see him there, it's Washington Park." She replied.

"Okay, thank you very much. How's he been?" I asked.

"Good." She replied, "He's doing well in school, making friends."

I smiled, "Good. Well, I'll see you soon."

"Bye, dear." The phone line went dead. I put my phone in the cup holder of the car as Kol continued to drive.

"How is he?" Kol asked.

"Good. Sounds like he's way better there than in Mystic Falls with your psychotic brother." I replied with a small smirk.

Kol tilted his head and looked at me, "Which one?" I laughed which caused him to smile. He turned back to face the road, "That reminds me, did you speak to Elijah?"

"I barely even had time to sleep, you woke me up at five a.m." I reminded him.

"Right." Kol nodded once.

"Do you have any blood bags?" I asked him, "I'm so hungry."

Kol reached his arm behind my chair and into the back of the car. He pulled it back and held a bloodbag near me, "Here. Got a couple fresh ones earlier."

"Thanks." I took it off him, our fingers brushing against each other.

I got a feeling inside me that I hadn't felt in a long time. I quickly turned my attention to the blood bag, ripping the top open. Before I could take a sip, my phone began to ring. I picked it up and looked at the caller ID, it was Damon. I groaned.

"Who is it?" Kol asked.

"Damon." I replied. The phone stopped ringing.

"Ignore him, he'll go away." Kol replied.

"He won't." The phone rang again, Damon's name flashing on the screen. I turned the phone to show Kol, "See."

Kol took the phone and answered it in a different accent to his own, "Cassie's not here right now, please leave a message."

"Who the hell is this? Let me talk to Cassie." I heard Damon on the other end.

I threw the blood bag back onto the back seat. Kol continued with the same voice, "Hm. No."

"I will find you and rip your hea -- "

I grabbed the phone, "Damon, what do you want?"

"Where are you?" He asked, "I haven't seen you for two days."

"Not one of you called me yesterday at all." I frowned, "I had no idea where you were or what you were doing so, don't make it sound like it's my fault."

"Well, we had to sort things out. Didn't go completely to plan but still." Damon said.

"Don't tell me -- "

"Wasn't gonna." I could literally hear his smirk, "Where are you? I can hear a car. Who was that guy?"

"I'm getting out of town for a while." I replied.
