Chapter 56: Saying Goodbyes
-Bex p.o.v.-

The last day. For much longer I won't be a fifth year anymore. Only twenty-four hours.

I was awake. Couldn't sleep, actually, I had been having trouble sleeping for weeks now. Each time I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep Tom would appear. He would speak to me, urge me to come with him.

At first it was little whispers, soft and delicate. Then it changed, he was demanding my presence to be right next to him. He said he needed me, he begged and pleaded, calling for me in my dreams.

And when I woke up, the snake that was coiled around my finger would throb, like it had a heart beat.

So there I was, at midnight, on the very last day of the term, awake. Finally, I had had enough.

I stood from my bed, my bare feet touching to cold ground, taking in the cool feeling before it was gone, my temperature quickly making the floor hot. Padding, bare foot, in pajamas and most likely looking as if a family of birds had decided to make a home in my hair, I went down to the common room.

The large room was empty, the only source of light being the embers that had not been fully distinguished. With one quick glance around, making sure there was no one in the room, I escaped the common room and went out onto the seventh floor.

Quickly, I started down the hall, towards the Astronomy Tower. Halfway there, I began to speak, muttering the words, "Andrew, meet me in the tower. I need you. Please, if you can hear me, meet me there."

Silence. Nothing. Not a sound. I continued, not stopping, going to the tower.

When I arrived, it was silent. There was no sign that Andrew had heard me. But I hoped, he told me he would be able to hear me. He told me that he would be there for me. He told me time and time before that he was only here because of me. But where was he?

"Dumbledore?" The familiar voice questioned, "what are you doing just standing there, I thought you needed to talk or something?"

"Blake." I breathed into the crisp night air.

"Yeah it's me, who did you expect?" He jumped from our place, landing on the ledge in a crouch. "You said to meet here, and I did. Why are you so surprised?"

Without thinking I lunged forward, wrapping my body around his. He gasped, throwing his arms out to catch me while also trying to keep his balance so we didn't fall off the tower.

"What are you doing?" He asked, flustered with what was happening, he didn't know how to deal with it.

I pulled back a little, still holding on to him, touching his as much as possible. "I've missed you, where have you been?" I frowned, upset with his absence. "I haven't seen you or Sebastian since before I was kidnapped."

He smiled down at me, getting of the ledge and sitting on the floor, his back against the stone wall. He held me in his lap, petting my hair, "I didn't forget about you if that's what you're thinking. I knew exactly where you were. I'm bound to you by body, mind and soul, I could have gotten to you at any second. Nothing can stop me."

"Then why didn't you save me? I needed you." I frowned, leaning into his chest.

"You didn't need me. If you really did, I would have been there. I didn't save you because you had to save yourself, I can't do everything for you, I'm merely a guardian angel, I'm not a mortal who can just step in when wanted. I'm only there when you need me, not when you want me." He explained, stroking my hair, whispering into my ear.

"What happens when I don't need you anymore?"

"I will have to move on, find a new child to guard. But you'll always be my first and most important. I'll still be able to visit you," he smiled softly.

"Will you visit me often?"

"Everyday if you want me to, when you are no longer my child, I can be with you when you want me, not when you need me. Because I will no longer be needed."

"Will you change? Grow older?"

"No. I'm stuck like this for the rest of eternity." He frowned, "I'm like a rock on the side of a stream. Never moving, never growing older, stuck forever."

"Forever is a long time. How did you decide to become an angel? Did you have one before, you know, when you were a human." I asked curiously.

He chuckled, his musical laugh making chills go up my spine. Oh how I've missed him. "My mortal years. Those were the days. I lived long ago, in the seventeenth century."

I gasped, "that long ago?"

He nodded, "the training is intense, plus I had to wait until you needed me."

"So you show up wherever I go?" I questioned, glancing up at him.

"Pretty much. Though you didn't notice me while you were at Beauxbatons. I couldn't exactly show myself, it's an all girls school and I am a boy." He chuckled, his chest vibrated, sending the movement up and down my spine.

"What are you and Sebastian doing for the break? Where do you go?" I frowned, looking up at him curiously.

"We go wherever we please." He shrugged.

"Will you stay with me? At my house, please?" I turned in his lap, facing him, still gripping his robes.

"If you'd like." He gave a nod.

Soon I drifted off to sleep, lying in his arms. The reassuring rhythm of his heartbeat calmed me, putting me into a deep sleep, one that prevented Tom from bothering me.

"Bex!" Lily frowned, pulling me into a tight hug, "I'm going to miss you so much."

I giggled, "I'll miss you too Lily. But I will be seeing you soon, you know. We'll be spending a whole month of the summer together. You don't have to miss me too much."

We stood at the crowded platform, many students were huddled together, saying their goodbyes and greeting family. It was officially the end of the school year, time to go home.

She pulled back slightly, "I know, but I'm going to miss waking you up in the mornings." She frowned, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Lily," I sighed, "I'm never going to truly understand you." I giggled shaking my head at her. "You can wake me up all you want when I come to visit."

She giggled, "I'll see you in exactly two weeks. No exceptions. Promise?"

"Promise." I grinned, linking my pinkie into her outstretched one. "Say hi to mum and dad, will you?"

"Of course." She nodded with a bright smile.

I had already said my goodbyes to all of my other friends. Severus, he disappeared off with his parents, most likely going home. Regulus was dragged away by him mum, her sending me a dark glare. The girls had all giggled, promising a sleep over some time. All that was left was Lily, and was she making this harder than it had to be.

"Aye, Dumbledore," Black snuck up behind me.

"What do you three want?" I glared at the three boys standing in front of me.

"I was just wanting to wish you a happy summer, be safe. I'll see you next year." Remus smiled quickly before following a lady with similar brown hair and joyful eyes.

"My parents wanted me to invite you over for dinner, though I'm sure you'll be declining?" James looked at me inquisitively, when I nodded he spoke once more, "I'll make an excuse up for you." And he turned away, calling over his shoulder, "hurry up Padfoot! Mum doesn't want the ham to burn. Bye Lily-flower, be safe."

I glared at the last boy, "be safe, yeah? See you later Dumbledore." He winked, and before I could even notice what was happening he ducked down. His lips touched mine, soft and sweet, pulling away before I could react. "See you next year, Dumbledore." He called, walking away, sending me a smirk over his shoulder before he faced forward, running a hand through his dark hair, throwing his head back to laugh when James clapped him on he shoulder.

I watched after him, jaw dropped and eyes wide. My hand subconsciously traveled up to my lips, touching them right where Sirius Black kissed me.

"What just happened?" Lily gasped, looking from my surprised face to Sirius' back.

"I have no idea," I spoke in shock, still not able to comprehend what had just happened.

"I think I know," Lily smirked, "Sirius Black fancies you." She then broke off in giggles.

I shook my head, "no possible way. Sirius Black does not fancy people. He messes with them until he gets what he wants."

"There's no denying it, Sirius Black fancies you. It explains everything. Why he constantly stares at you, his need to show off when you're around, that look in his eyes when you talk to other guys, especially his brother. Sirius Black fancies you!" She gasped, putting the pieces together. Smirking she spoke, "you guys would make a cute couple."
