I never thought my life here in Hemlock Grove would be so ... different.
I've made some peculiar friends but I wouldn't trade them for the world. Apparently, I was the only one thinking that.
Last week has been rough on everyone. I had to leave the Godfrey Institute in a rush and I went to another hospital. Finn and Tessa had been in a car accident and Finn had been badly injured. They don't remember much but they both talked about a guy in some sort of a white mask or something. It didn't make much sense but I was relieved all he had was a couple broken ribs with some bruises and Tessa was just shocked and a bit dizzy. It felt like fate was against us, if there's any God above our heads, we must have done something that made him very angry and I'm not a religious person. It was like the world was falling apart but Letha's death during child birth, seemed to be the last straw. The Godfrey family took another blow after Shelly's disappearance and this time they had a hard time getting their head out of the water. My aunt was also sick and tired of this situation and decided to leave. When we moved in, we thought we would get away from the madness of a big city but oh boy, we were wrong. Donna couldn't take it anymore and she left me with a choice : leaving with her and Tessa or staying here. I couldn't choose right on the spot and asked her a couple of days to think about it.
After those two days, her and my sister were already packing their stuff in the car and the house was getting a bit empty. I also packed some stuff because it seemed like I had nothing left for me here. I tried to call several times Peter but he wouldn't answer. I tried the same with Roman and even went to his house, but his mother was there and she told me he wouldn't see anyone. I felt abandoned once again when we should help each other. So I had begun to pack and was about to take my stuff downstairs when a 6 ft 3 blond haired boy came into my room.
"What are you doing here ?" I asked him a bit surprised.
"You're leaving? You're fucking leaving me too ?" he shouted, but his voice was weak.
"I don't know what to do Roman ... - wait, did you say "leaving too"? Who left ?"
"Peter ! Peter left me, he left us. And now you're doing the same! I shouldn't have come here." He was about to leave when I grabbed his arm.
It was all he was waiting for. He turned around and hugged him. He was crashing my bones but I didn't care, he obviously needed that.
"Why do people always leave me? I'm trying the best I can ..." he cried in the hollow of my shoulder.
"Please," he carried on. "Please Rose don't leave me, you're all I have left now." Seeing him in this state was unbearable.
"I won't leave you Roman, I won't. I promise."
"You can't leave Hemlock Grove. Peter made a mistake. We were having the same dreams him and I. We were seeing an Ouroboros." he said sniffing a bit. "You have an Ouroboros tattooed on your skin. It can't be a coincidence." He said, still not letting me go. And as I thought of the meaning behind the dreams and the tattoo, I knew I had to stay.

Donna and Tessa were gone, Finn was still at the hospital and Roman had invited me to his house. His uncle had moved in and he didn't want to face his mother and Norman alone. The diner was probably one of the most awkward dinner I've ever been to. Norman wasn't mentally present and Olivia seemed ... fine. I mean her daughter was missing, presumed dead and her niece died but she didn't seem to care. Maybe it was her way to cope with everything but Roman was certainly not feeling the same way. He was just playing with his food and let his mother talk and did not answered to any of her questions.
"Should I order another bottle ?" She asked looking at her brother in law and her son. No one made a sound and I was looking down at my plate.
---
After dinner, Roman took me to their indoor empty swimming pool. The place was huge and I wish it was filled up with water. Instead, a chair was in the middle of the pool with a reclining chair and some speakers. We got all set up, Roman took the chair, I took the floor, appreciating the cold sensation of the tiles on my skin and put on some music.
"So ... Your family is gone now ?" Roman asked him.
"Yep, there's only my cousin left." I still called Finn my cousin ... Once again I lied to his face ...
"The one in the hospital ?" I just nodded. Neither of us said anything after that and it wasn't awkward or anything, we were just thinking.
"By the way Rose, " he started. " ... thank you."
As shocking as it was to hear him saying that, I didn't want to tease him this time.
"Why are you thanking for ?" I wasn't teasing him but you could hear the amusement in my voice.
"For everything. And especially because you're the only who -" He didn't get the time to finish his sentence when his mum came in the room with a sparkling candle in her hand.
"Happy birthday darling." it made me look at my phone and I saw it was already one in the morning, so technically it was his birthday.
"I was wondering if I might ask you to join me in the attic."
Roman lifted his head and looked at his mother. He then looked at me and asked her. "Why ?"
"There's something I'd like to show you."
--
I wanted to leave them some privacy and I was waiting in Roman's bedroom. After what felt like 20 minutes I heard some screams and I went to the attic to see what was going on. I knew I shouldn't be here, but I was way too curious and I opened the door.
Nothing could have prepared me for that. In the middle of the room, a cradle with a black veil on it was circled by candles. Roman was next to it with blood all over his arms and around his mouth. He was looking at the body of his mother, laid down on the ground. "You talk too much." was all he find to say to Olivia who seemed to be dead. I involuntarily let out a strangled noise and Roman turned his head in my direction.
"Rose, it's not what it looks like -- "
I don't think I've ever been that frightened in my entire life. Not even when Christina turned into the vargulf. The fact that my friend, Roman, the guy I trusted with my life, had just killed his mother was so .. crazy. It was unthinkable and it was absolutely terrifying. And when Roman took another step to get closer to me, I got scared for my life and ran away.
"Rose! Don't go! Let me explain !" He said running after me.
I got out of the house as quick as possible. Once in the street, I quickly glanced behind me and saw Roman at the door. He was saying something, but my blood was pumping so loudly in my ears that I couldn't hear a word he was saying, and it was probably for the best. I ran all the way up to my house and once inside, I locked every door, closed every window and drew the curtains. I went into my room and finally laid down on my bed. I hoped what I've just witnessed was just a dream and I would wake up in Roman's bed but it seemed unlikely. In Hemlock Grove, the madness never stops because it knows how to find you.
