Chapter 35

I flipped over trying to get comfortable. Lo had been right. My back was going to kill me in the morning. Laying there I replayed the conversation I had only a few hours before.

"Hey what's wrong with you? Lo is your best friend-"

"Stay out of it Harry" she snapped climbing off the bed.

"No. Are you really planning to not testify next month?" She stood at the dresser, going through the drawer she had claimed months before her official move in.

"Harry I've had one argument about this tonight. I really don't want another" she whined.

"You have to Charlie! They will think you don't care if-"

"I love you. Thats why I'm telling you this, but you are about to say something that will not make this night end well for either of us" she stopped, resting her hands on the front of the drawer.

"Baby please just hear me out" pushing the drawer shut she grabbed a towel and headed towards the bathroom. I followed.

"Get out Harry I need to shower"

"Charlie you're testifying next month. I've been understanding and patient. This is something I will push though" my tone was a little more aggressive than intended.

"Get out!" She screamed at me. Her small hands pushing me out of the bathroom.

"No! He put you through hell. He broke you and I picked up the pieces. Now it's time to put him away and you don't plan to do the one thing needed of you?" I stepped closer.

"You put me back together? Poor Charlie can't fix herself. She needs a big strong man to set her back on her feet. And since you've done that you have say in if I have to whine to a jury in a courtroom about what happen?" She glared at me. "News flash. They don't know me and they don't know him. For all we know by the time we go through the events leading up to his big finish they will think I led him on. Why didn't I say something sooner? Why did I let him get so close to my best friend? Why did I keep my mouth shut about what he did to my boyfriend? 'I wanted to protect them' will only go so far. If I had any idea of his plans I would have said something much sooner. So I know how this will play out, I won't be there to see it happen though!"

"Nobody is going to blame you for what happen!" I was irritated by her negative attitude towards the justice system. They wouldn't let him get away with this. She just needed to see it from a different point of view.

"Oh really? You did" she raised her brow.

I felt the lump in my throat. She had me on that one. I looked away unable to make eye contact.

"When I finally said something what did you do? You told me I had done enough. Remember that?" she stepped towards me. My eyes locked on her bare feet slowly making their way to me. "I didn't say anything and Lo was almost me. That was my fault and you made sure I knew it"

She was right in front of me now. I looked up. The tears were on the verge of spilling over. The anger in her face twisted her beautiful features to something almost unrecognizable.

"Love please don-"

"If you thought it was my fault. What's to keep a jury from doing the same?" Her tone was cold. I also didn't know what to say. I swallowed trying to find the words. "I think you should sleep on the couch"

"What-why?" I asked confused.

"I heard you and Lo talking. I think that's the best idea she's had in a while" her tone was clipped.

"This is my room too and-"

"Fine I will sleep on the couch." She turned.

"No! I don't want either of us on the couch. I just don't want to fight anymore"

"Well choose wisely then?" She narrowed her eyes.

"This is bullshit" I mumbled grabbing a couple pillows.

"Tell me about it" she rolled her eyes.

"Just remember you are pushing away the people who care the most. We only want to help you"

"I don't need your help!-"

"It's your turn to not say something you won't mean" I quipped.

"Goodnight Harry!" She walked into the bathroom slamming the door.

I never realized how itchy our couch was. My bare skin against it was driving me mad. She had officially been living here two full days and I was already on the couch. Maybe Niall was right I am whipped. I laughed to myself knowing it wasn't true. I just loved her. I should of stood my ground though. I looked at my phone. It's charge was on twenty percent. Maybe that could be my excuse for going back to the room. I forgot my charger and also fell asleep in our bed. Our bed. That was a weird thought. Somehow I imagined it a bit different than me on the couch. I sat up running my fingers through my hair. I shivered as my feet made contact with the cold wood floor. They carried me to our bedroom door in no time. Our bedroom. This was going to take some getting use to. I turned the knob peeking my head in first. She lay on my side. Arms wrapped securely around one of my body pillows. I assume her legs were as well but it was dark and the covers hid her from me. Interesting she would rather hug a damn pillow while laying in my spot than to just have me in bed with her.

I fumbled next to the bed trying to find the white cord. A small movement was heard and the light on my nightstand flicked on.

"What are you doing" her sleepy voice was one of the sexiest things about her. Small and sweet.

"Uhhh my charger. My phone is about to die"

"Why do you need it at 4am anyways?" She questioned.

I hadn't thought about that. Why did it need to be charged? I had no plans in the morning and I could easily charge it in my car if I had to go somewhere.

"I was um playing candy crush and I really want to beat this level." I half smiled.

Really Harry? That was the best you could do?

"Since when do you play candy crush?" She narrowed her eyes.

"Since I have to sleep on a itchy couch" I shot back. Why did she get to grill me so hard about my damn phone charger. It was mine anyways.

"Whatever" she sat up swinging her legs over the edge of the bed. She stood walking around it to the bathroom. I was not going back to that couch. I quickly ran back grabbing my pillows. I heard here washing her hands when I dived on to the bed and under the covers. As the door opened I closed my eyes.

"No! I knew you were lying." She padded over to my side. I kept my eyes closed tightly. "Harry you are not asleep!" I knew her hands would be on her hips. So I tried fighting the smile that threatened to give me away.

"Harry!" She tugged on the covers.

"No I'm cold stop!" I whined. Squeezing my eyes tighter.

"Get up! You were thrown out of the room for the night!"

"Well I've thrown myself back in so just lay down and cuddle me like I know you want to" I smirked.

"I don't want to do anything but punch you if you don't leave! And you can't throw yourself back in that's impossible!"

"Actually I did I got some serious air while you were in the bathroom" I teased.

"You're not funny Styles now get out!" She continued to pull on the blankets that had already created a toasty welcome for my return.

"Give it up baby I'm not going anywhere" I smiled. My eyes closed still.

"You are such an ass!" She stomped back to her side of the bed.

I felt her flop down. Snatching some of the blankets I released.

I win.
