4 ▸ USING TEXTURES

Two tutorials back to back, litt.
Barely anyone reads this but for the ones who do, I decided to make this tutorial. I honestly think it's a pretty important thing to learn for cover making and graphic making in general.

I'm super shocked no one has made a texture tutorial yet. Well, I haven't seen one at least and since I haven't seen one yet, I'm gonna show you guys how to use textures.

I still pretty much suck at life itself when it comes to the use of textures bUt I'm learning.

BOTH COVERS UP THERE ARE MINE. (Yes, I obviously changed my username.)

The first cover was something I wiped up on my own and it's kind of a mess of vomit but I'm proud of it. The second one that's up there, I made on my own using a tutorial from -voidallison (her BCT book has saved me, okay?)

But let me stop talking and get down to the tutorial.

Important: For texture use I highly suggest using two textures that look alike. You can also use a color that matches your texture to use as your background, but using similar textures is just better. I'm going to be using these two made by marioantonio23 on DeviantArt but I got them from GraphicShit Resources book.

1. Open one of your textures as your background. Then open the PNG of your faceclaim as the foreground. Position this as you please.

Optional (highly recommended): Go under the Mask tab. Scroll through the masking options until you reach the bi-linear gradient tool. Use it however you want to make the bottom of your PNG have this fading kind of look.

Then merge.

It already kind of looks blended but I'm not done (because I'm extra, duh.)

2. Open your second texture and expand it over the entire picture.

3. Go under the Mask tab again and use the brush tool. Lower the size of the brush and turn the softness up all the way, and use the soft brush and turn of magnify. Now, start erasing over your faceclaim until you're satisfied.

Merge it fam.

Then you can use whatever filter you want and add a title.
