The Here and Now
"Hyud," screamed a guard. "HYUD!"
It's one of the few Thai words which makes sense to me, I know it means stop. Within my first couple of days here, the Thai school of hard knocks, usually delivered by a wooden baton, had taught me what 'hyud' meant.
It's like the childhood game of statues, when the boss says stop, then you stop and freeze.
The dog handler zig-zags his four-legged friend amongst the assembled prisoners. I've no drugs today so I don't care.
"What the fuck?"
The guards nearly wet themselves with laughter as the dog lifts its leg and pisses all over my feet.
