Near stayed like that while you cooked. Half of the pancakes, sadly, were burned on only one side. You didn't know why, but it felt nice to have someone by you. You didn't feel so, well, alone. The loneliness  had faded, and you felt like you could actually be "normal" around somebody.

"Sorry some of them got half-burned." You put the half burned ones on a plate and plated some for Near. He sat down on the couch, since there wasn't a dining table in the hotel. You put syrup and butter, as well as Near's plate and some silverware on the coffee table.

"There's no need to apologize. It wasn't your fault. I was just nervous that you'd get hurt and I wanted to be by you, just in case." He looked up at you with a glimmer in his pitch-black eyes.

"I wouldn't have gotten hurt. And if I did, it wouldn't hurt much." You attempted to reassure him. He looked at you with slight skepticism.

"Alright. Thank you for breakfast, Miss (your name)." He said politely.

"You're welcome. You can call me (y/n) instead of Miss (y/n)." You smiled slightly. He ate the pancakes you had made within ten minutes, which was a bit surprising to you. He seemed to have actually enjoyed them. He cleaned up and washed the dishes for you, and he hummed while cleaning.

"I could have done that. You're my guest, you don't have to clean." You helped out as much as you could.

"You made the food. I insist on cleaning for you." He looked into your eyes.

"Sooooo.... Do you have a job?" You asked.

"I am a detective." He said bluntly.
