Imagine you two having a dog together, giving it a (funny) name and treating it well, pamper it and when Sherlock tries to do some experiments on it (he's not overly fond of the dog) you are angry together and think of a way to 'punish' Sherlock for even trying to hurt your dearest pet. Nothing will happen to the dog since he is the king in house and Sherlock's kind of jeasous of the fact that the dog gets all John's attention and not him. Imagine walking the dog with John in a autumn forest and imagine the funny/akward conversation John and Sherlock would have when John asks him why he doesn't like your dog.
