"It is a beautiful day in Chicago today. Temperatures expected to reach the upper 70's. Right now, 75 at the lakefront, 74 at Midway, 73 at O'Hare. And now, up in the sky-"
The weather report was interrupted by the voice of a worried woman.
"Ferris?... Ferris?... Tom!" She called out.
A man quickly rushed up the stairs. "What's the matter?" He asked when he stepped through the door.
"Oh, it's Ferris."
"What? What's wrong?"
"What's wrong?! For Christ's sake, look at him, honey."
Said boy was lying on his bed, eyes blankly staring at nothing particular as his parents talked.
"Ferris?" His dad asked, as they both stared at him concerned.
"He doesn't have a fever, but he says his stomach hurts and he's seeing spots," his mother informed her husband.
"What's the matter Ferris?" His father asked, turning away from his wife to look down at his son.
"Papa?" he replied, slightly lifting his head off of the pillow it currently rested on.
"Honey, feel his hands; they're cold and clammy," his mother rushed.
Obliging, Ferris removed his hand from under his pillow and held it out for his father to feel.
"I'm fine," Ferris said after his fathers hands retracted away and were wiped on the suit he currently wore. "I get up," he said before moving to sit up, to which his parents both quickly moved to push him back down, both saying a firm no.
"I have a test today," he tried again, to which his mother had the same response as before.
"I have to take it," she pushed him down again, "I-I want to go to a good college so I can have a fruitful life."
"Honey, your not going to school like this, now."
"Oh, fine. What's his problem?" Spoke the girl everyone had failed to notice in the doorway.
"He doesn't feel well," replied her mother as she turned to address her daughter.
"Dry that one out, you can fertilize the lawn."
"Jeanie?" Ferris asked as he tried to look for her, "Is that you? Jeanie, I can't see that far."She gave him a look as he called her name."Jeanie," Ferris began to reach out for her, "Jeanie, I-" his breathing became ragged and he fell back on his bed before finishing."Bite the big on junior," she replied before moving her hand to fix her lipstick, discreetly flipping him off.He winked at her as their mom began to talk again."Thank you Jeanie, you get to school.""Wait, you're letting him stay home?! I can't believe this. If I was bleeding out my eyes you'd guys make me go to school. This is so unfair.""Jeanie," Ferris spoke, "please don't be upset with me. You have your health, be thankful," He finished before putting his finger to his lips, signaling for her to be quiet about him faking it all, before moaning and falling on his back again, grabbing his parents attention.Growling, Jeanie spoke, "That's it. I want out of this family," before turning and stomping off down the hall.
Their mom sighed before both parents turned their attention back to Ferris.
"It's OK, I'll just sleep," he told them, " Maybe I'll have an Aspirin around noon."
"Now listen," his mother softly began as she pulled the blanket over him more, " I'm showing some houses to that family from Vermont today, so I'll be in the area. Now, my office will always know just where I am if you need me, OK?"
"I'll check on ya too, pal," his father added.
"It's-it's nice to know that I have such loving, caring parents. You're both very special people."
They both smiled at him before his mother leaned down to kiss him.
"You get better, pumpkin."
"Okay, pumpkin," he replied, clicking his teeth together.
"I'll be home at six sharp. If you need anything," his dad lifted his hand to make a fake telephone, "call."
"Ringy-dingy," Ferris replied with a small laugh at the end.
They began to walk out of his room and before closing the door, his mother turned and reminded him they loved him.
"I love you, too. And a-me-me-me-me-me." Ferris started to close his eyes and act as if he were going to sleep
"Call us if you need anything," was the last thing he heard his father say before the door closed and both his parents were gone.
He waited until he heard the front door close and turned to the fourth wall in front of him.
"They bought it," he stated.
